8.1???

Bania's sit down with Jerry in the restaurant is one of the most electric scenes in the series. What an incredibly bizarre thing to say to somebody-I'll save the meal for another time? Jerry's reaction is priceless. This is a quintessential George episode too with the manure girl. An absolute all-timer.

There's No Such Thing as a Free Gift
Samuel-Shovel17 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Jerry accepts an Armani suit as a gift from a fellow comedian Kenny Bania but must take him out for a meal of gratitude. Elaine comes back from London and brings a man back with her but he quickly begins to freeload off of her. George goes on a date with a waitress from the diner but feels weird going back to eat after the date goes poorly. Kramer gets rid of his refrigerator and begins to only eat fresh food.

This marks the first appearance of Bania whose hilarious as always. Kramer has another classic scheme with this whole no fridge thing and George ruins something great for himself once again by outcasting himself from the diner. Another episode, another classic for this series.

"Yeah, I'm huge"

This episode is like a hill downwards. It starts really great with Jerry's and George's story lines getting the most attention and by the middle of the episode it starts it slow downfall.

Four story lines: Jerry gets a brand new Armani suit from Kenny Bania (his first appearance) and now he wants a meal invitation in return. George is trying to get a date with the waitress of Monk's. Elaine is dating an English-man. Kramer is "dating" a waitress from Reggie's.

Jerry's and George's story lines start off great with George's deteriorating harder as the episode progresses. Kenny Bania is absolutely on fire on here, although the writers didn't come out with a good ending for his story. Elaine's and Kramer's stories are so bad and unremarkable that I can't remember anything from their plots. Elaine's boyfriend is really undeveloped and her story in general goes nowhere. Kramer's girlfriend is a sort of monster that must be feed for some reason and, as you guessed it, it goes nowhere.

As I said, the first part of this episode is really good. As it moves forward every single story starts to deteriorate and leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth.

"Maneur is quite refreshing "

Only an 8.1 rating? I wish I had an understanding of how the rating system works. This episode is hilarious from beginning to end. George mentioning how he like horse poop on a date. Banion and Jerry's understanding of what a "meal" is. This is one of my favorite episodes on season 6. And I consider it better than some of the higher rated episodes.

"This soup is the best, Jerry, the best!"
itamarscomix4 October 2011
Season 6, Episode 7, "The Soup"

"The Soup" is a good episode, consistent with the general quality of season 6, though not one of the best. The main thing that makes the episode memorable is that it marks the first appearance of Steve Hytner as terrible comedian Kenny Bania, who is the culmination of several bad comedian characters who appeared throughout the show's run and would be the one to remain as Jerry's main antagonist within the business (discounting Newman of course) for the remaining season.

Everything else in the episode is funny but pretty standard. British actor Daniel Gerroll is good as Elaine's boyfriend-of-the-week but his character doesn't make much sense; and Kramer doesn't have a lot going for him in the episode at all. Good filler episode.

Pardon.

Warning: Spoilers
The Plot: Jerry gets an Armani suit from Kenny Bania, a hack comedian. In return for the suit, Bania wants Jerry to take him out to dinner. Jerry gets really irritated when Bania says that he'll get soup and make Jerry take him out again. Elaine has a British man staying with her, who is constantly mooching off of her.

Why would Elaine stay with that guy anyways? Because she likes his accent probably. Most American women will sometimes date a British man because of his accent. There was probably another reason why but I would assume so. I wouldn't be too happy with what Bania was doing if I were Jerry. He gives him a suit that he doesn't really like and expects him to take him out to dinner. Then once he orders, he just insists on another dinner. It's wrong. i would be like Screw you, this is the meal. That's what Jerry does. The Soup is a classic episode. The Soup is gold Jerry, Gold.

Bania is like a dog
ThunderKing626 March 2023
He is so annoying, invasive. In show, he sounds funny, but in real life if anyone spoke the way he does, you would not want to be near them.

This review that you are currently reading was typed on March the 26th in the year 2023rd in the 21st century.

What happened in this episode?: Jerry gets a suit and must watch Bania eat soup

Elaine brings over a leech from the United Kingdom.

George rekindles the girl he dumped in "Ex-Girlfriend" now she does the dumping literally

Kramer feeds a fat, loud woman.

The story and the production overview: A fantastic episode. Bania debuts, and he was such a good character, though an annoying one if you viewed him on Jerry's perspective.

Overall a laughable fun episode.

Highlight: Bania at Mendy's

Laugh Meter: 10

Girlfriend attractiveness level: 1.2

Villain: Bania.

The motion of sitting with Jerry at Mendy's should count as a meal. Even if he only had crackers or only gum. If a deal is exchanged and a dinner is offered within that exchange, and you sit down with someone, then that is the meal. Even if you don't eat. Then you should postpone for another day.

What can be learned: Bania was wrong. He was wrong.

Verdict: Soup is a meal IMO.

While most fans will say one of the best episodes ever is 'The Soup Nazi' - and it is great. To me this is even better so much funnier with intro of another fantastic character that of Kenny Bania! It's a masterpiece to me!

It's Not a Meal!
Hitchcoc15 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Jerry knows he is going to pay for it when a comedian he can't stand has lost weight and has an expensive suit to give away (an Armani). Jerry is intimidated into accepting his offer but knows he will pay for it. The guy insists that Jerry buy him a meal and the fun starts. What constitutes a meal is the issue. Elaine hooks up with a pompous ass British guy. George gets the hots for a waitress at the diner and shoots too high. There is a hilarious discussion where George explains that he actually likes horse manure because it is a part of the rejuvenation of our world. She, of course, thinks he's really strange. George gets furious because he feels she mislead him.

No soup for you
safenoe21 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Steve Hytner makes his debut as Kenny Bania, who Jerry pretty much disdains, especially when Bania gifts Jerry a second-hand designer suit, but there's a catch, being that Jerry treat Bania to a meal. Kramer thinks that's a great deal, but Jerry not so much.

George is humiliated when he learns that the diner waitress has a boyfriend, like just part of the conversation. George has to act all upstanding and all, but he's seething big time.

Elaine hosts a British-English guest from the United Kingdom, and he irritates Elaine and all. If Seinfeld was rebooted I would nominate Danny Dyer to play the British guest.
