Not quite there

The first half of the episode is fantastic. George and Jerry discuss and illustrate their superficial personalities.

The second half really drags and fails to deliver the same laughs as the first part.

I really didn't care about Kramer and Elaine's story line.

It feels as if the first half belongs to season 3 and the second to season 2 or 1.

That being said, it is enjoyable episode but not up there with the season 3 standard.

Also, every single one of Jerry's stand up bits is absolute gold.

The Nose Knows
Hitchcoc1 May 2022
Once again George comes out the loser. He is dating a generally attractive young woman, but she has a fairly large nose. He can't get past it and events move to her getting surgery. This is only after Kramer flat out states the fact that she has this slight deformity. Of course, their insensitivity is going to lead to problems. George sees something on television about a Chinese hair treatment for baldness and much of the schtick revolves around this stuff. Finally, Jerry hooks up with a very sexy woman who is really unpleasant, but he can't get past his lust. There is a scene where Jerry plays two parts that doesn't work all that well. I'll leave it to you to decide.

Warning: Spoilers
1. George can't stand his girlfriends nose 2. Jerry dates a hot girl 3. Kramer dates Audrey

This episode was solid. The beginning bit about pharmacists was hilarious because it's so outdated, the show being 30 years old. This episode had a solid theme about the superficiality of appearances in relationships. George dated a girl who was seemingly perfect but her large nose was an issue. Jerry dated a girl who is hot but dumb and irritating. Both of these explore the idea of flaws that turn the partner off. Both men cannot deal with it and break it off. For Jerry, that may have been a good thing, but for George, it was a loss as Audrey comes back beautifully with perfect nose.

The Kramer jacket thing is a running subplot but it's nice to see him win for once.

"You got butchered!"

Is there any other sitcom where the entire plot of an episode originates from a casual conversation or, as was often the case with Seinfeld, a tactless remark? Not really, and that's probably because other sitcom writers know better than trying to ape the show's successful gimmicks.

The Nose Job is practically all about George dating a woman with a huge nose, which prompts the excessively earnest Kramer that a little surgery wouldn't be bad for her. While the nose subplot advances, Kramer and Elaine also come up with a scheme to get their hands on a jacket he desperately wants, and Jerry is tormented by his sexual attraction for a vacuous actress he doesn't really like that much as a person.

For sheer irreverence alone, this episode is a Season Three classic, the scene where Kramer makes the nose comment standing out as a prime example of how daring Seinfeld could be (and still is, as a matter of fact). Jokes about body parts. Even the most inappropriate ones, always fare well (a lesson Larry David carried on to Curb Your Enthusiasm), and the way Michael Richards and Jason Alexander act around that event still has to be equaled (is it any wonder Richards won an Emmy for his contributions in this season?).

Plus, The Nose Job contains the most audacious and entertaining dream sequence ever: Jerry's brain and penis playing chess to decide whether the comedian should dump his uninteresting girlfriend or not. Not even Woody Allen in his early, funny years was brave enough to write a scene like that.

The Nose Job is a superb episode, that's quite hilarious, as it's one of my favorites on season 3!

Warning: Spoilers
(plot). Jerry dates a sexy but shallow actress, forcing him to evaluate whether his penis or his brain rules his relationships. Kramer encourages George's girlfriend Audrey to get a nose job, which goes horribly wrong.

The Nose Job is a superb episode, that's quite hilarious, as it's one of my favorites on season 3!. I thought it was so hilarious when George was weaseling his way to get Audrey to get a nose job, and it's extremely well written by Peter Mehlman, plus it's perfectly directed by Tom Cherones. Jerry's stand ups were very funny in this one, especially the one about what would happen if people said what they were thinking all the time, plus I always laugh so hard when Kramer blurts out that Audrey needs a nose job. The opening with George and Jerry talking about Audrey's nose was really funny, and I loved it when Kramer and Elaine posed as impostors to get the jacket Kramer wanted, plus it's extremely well made as well. I also loved the scene where Jerry's brain and penis play chess against each other, and Susan Diol and Tawny Kitaen both do awesome jobs as Audrey and Isabel ,plus the makeup they did on Audrey's nose was just awesome!. The Nose Job is a superb episode, that's quite hilarious, as it's one of my favorites on season 3, and if you haven't seen it, please do so immediately, you shouldn't regret it if your a Seinfeld lover!. ***** out of 5

Favorite quotes

(opening with George and Jerry talking about Audrey's nose. George: Well her nose is a little big. Jerry: Yeah she's got a big nose. George: I mean big would be OK,but it's a little beyond big. Jerry: It's a schnoz. George: Now I'm aware that my own physical dimensions are perhaps a little short of perfection. Jerry: A little. George: So who am I, to be thinking about someone's nose, I mean I should be grateful someone like her even looks at me, I have no job, nothing, but I have to say I think about the nose, I don't wanna think about the nose, I don't ask to think about the nose, but I think about it, I go to bed at night, and tell myself don't think about the nose, forget the nose, but I think about it, I look at her I see the nose.

(famous Nose job comment from Kramer). Audrey: It's amazing how many beautiful women live in New York, I actually find it kind of intimidating. Kramer: Well your as pretty as any of them, you just need a nose job.

(Jerry having problems with Isabelle). Jerry: Please, please Isabel, she is the most despicable woman I have ever met in my life, I have never been so repulsed by someone mentally, and so attracted to them physically at the same time, it's like my brain is facing my penis in a chess game.

Jerry: I'll tell you, the sex, I was like an animal, I mean it was just completely uninhibited. George: It's like going to the bathroom in front of a lot of people and not caring. Jerry: It's not like that at all.

(Audrey's new nose unavailing scene). Elaine: It looks good(with a sour face). Jerry: Great job. Kramer: You got butchered

What a Rhino

March 15th 2023rd.

What is this episode about?: George is superfical about a nose.

Elaine bunks with Audry

Jerry deals with a script reader

Kramer gets a Jacket.

Story and production: A great episode.

Highlight: Kramer being a loud mouth.

Laugh Meter: 9

Villain: George for being Rude to Audrey. By the end, Audrey and Kramer become the villain because Audrey hitches with Kramer at the end. That was rude of them.

Girlfriend Attractiveness level: 10. Audrey was a dime. Jerry's girl was a 7. Red head just turn me on.

What can be learned?: Get a nose job and leave the eh cups alone.

Verdict: Elaine... Shut up. She should have done that for seasons 7 to 9.

Enough chatter, let's play.

Warning: Spoilers
The Nose Job is about Jerry fighting his physical desires over an actress he despises and George occupied by his size of his girlfriend's nose.

None of the plot here's great, but the episode has frequently funny moments. One of the highlights is when the actress assumes what Jerry said must be in the script, because why the hell would anyone want to break up with her. George's too much of an ass here though for it to have significant value, Jerry's standup's alright.

Jerry: You got something in your teeth there. George: What? Jerry: It's green. George: Oh, man, it's spinach! I've been walking around like this all afternoon. Jerry: Did you bump into anybody you knew? George: I had a job interview.

Very un-Seinfeld
chengiz18 December 2016
As a big fan who has watched the series many times, I can categorically state that the chess match between brain-Seinfeld and penis-Seinfeld has to be the absolute worst scene in all of Seinfeld. What were they thinking? Jerry can't act! Don't give him stuff to do by himself! Especially stuff that's not funny in the first place! The scene belongs in some third rate sitcom in the 70s! What is it doing in the best comedy series of all time? Other parts of the episode too suffer from some cheesy direction and dialogue. For example, the intercuts to the elevator don't work, and certain dialogues run a tad too long ("Shut up George" should have ended it; why the "Shut up?" "Yes" "Interesting" that follows?). Seems to me some cast member or someone wrote this one. It's just not right.

That said the main story with the nose job is a little funny. Still, an easy contender for one of the worst Seinfeld episodes.

More of a hit or miss episode here
SLionsCricketreviews26 November 2015
Nowhere near the quality of the previous episodes, "The Nose Job" is more of a return to Season 2 of "Seinfeld" and focuses more around the hapless romances of George and Jerry.

George dates a woman he really likes, whose only repellent feature is her large nose, and he attempts to convince her in the most gentle of ways to get a nose job. Jerry dates a woman he met on a elevator; a woman he loathes but a woman who provokes irresistible sexual desires.

I found the George story-line entertaining, largely due to the brilliance of Jason Alexander. He has a special, rare comedic gift to make almost any line brilliant. When he feels guilty over his superficiality towards his girlfriend, he says "Oh man, I'm going straight to hell!". This line shouldn't be that funny, especially seeing as how its been said before, but Jason Alexander makes it humorous.

I wasn't as crazy about Jerry's story-line, the chess scene between penis-Jerry and brain-Jerry wasn't very amusing to me. I also enjoyed the small subplot of Kramer and Elaine, attempting to retrieve Kramer's favourite jumper.

A good episode, disposable entertainment but not an episode worthy of long term memory.

Possibly the worst Seinfeld episode ever
paulkaliciak13 November 2020
Horrible writing. "Is it your contention that Shakespeare was an imposter?" Well the whole book was about how Shakespeare is an Imposter, and after reading the entire book the landlord didn't know?! It's like the Seinfeld writer wasn't even paying attention to what he was writing. And the scene that Jerry and Tawny K. are reading is gibberish, it doesn't even read like a real fake play. The entire episode feels like bad sitcom writing, and is full of camera tricks that are decidedly non-Seinfeld. And it has an 8/10 rating on IMDb? They must be friends of the landlord.
