Sandy Baron fell into a coma days before production. The episode was being rewritten for another character but Baron came out of his coma in time.
Sandy Baron, who plays Jack Klompus, went missing during a rehearsal for this episode. After he arrived at the studios he became very ill while still in his car. He was eventually discovered by the show's production coordinator who ensured he received immediate medical treatment. While most scenes of the episode were filmed in December 1996, Baron's scenes were shot in January 1997, allowing him enough time to recover. Baron passed away in 2001 of emphysema.
This episode was the sequel to episode 7:14, "The Cadillac" and with 37.3 million viewers, was the most watched episode of the season.
