Easy come easy go

Warning: Spoilers
This is an episode that works best if your know the characters reasonably well.

Jerry can't get over that his new girlfriend and attractive lawyer once dated Newman and that he dumped her. He just can't get past it and ruins it based on that! But if you know Jerry it's not shocking just highly amusing that Newman is they one person he can't deal with rejecting a woman he finds appealing .

George is dating Julie also highly intelligent and attractive woman but it ends because she doesn't correct an assumption that she may have that she bought a big salad for Elaine when it was actually George .That doesn't end well either! Many think it's because it's becasue George is cheap and I think it's partly the case but it's also because he doesn't like anyone getting credit for something he did no matter how insignificant . It's probably not something Elaine even gave any thought to.

Elaine ends up going out with a stationary store employee over a pencil. Kind of a trite subplot but amusing .

Finally Kramer is in the one that has a plot we mostly just hear about from him until the end then of course he ends up on a high speed chase and on the news!

Solid laughs.

"He's a mystery wrapped in a Twinkie."

Season 6, Episode 2, "The Big Salad"

It's hard to use this word for any Seinfeld episodes, because they all have some great moments and memorable one-liners, but "The Big Salad" is definitely a weak episode. At this early point in season 6, the episode looks and feels like a season 5 episode, but it lacks the spark and precision of those earlier scripts. There's no appearance from Mr. Pitt or from George's bosses at the New York Yankees, who will provide many of the laughs in the season. And the attempt to be topical doesn't work in the episode's favor; it's not timeless like so many Seinfeld episodes are.

The episode does have its moments, mainly thanks to the interaction between Jerry and Newman, but for the most part the episode is weak like most of the start of season 6.

It Was a Big Salad
Hitchcoc2 December 2022
There were so many hilarious things. First of all, George the cheapskate and the master of pettiness gets Elaine a salad. His girlfriend carries it to the apartment but doesn't mention George paid for it. She is very attractive and smart, but he can't get over it. Secondly, Jerry's girlfriend, it turns out, once went with Newman (and he actually dumped her). Jerry can't get over this and can't have a relationship with her after that. There is also Elaine's interaction with a lascivious stationer whom she orders a pencil from. He lusts after her and tries to get her to go out with him. But the best is a former baseball player who kills his dry cleaner. Kramer thinks that a golf dispute caused him to do it and he blames himself.

George has a point.

She had no right taking credit for George's salad.

Hey.

This review was made on May day 29th in the year of 2023rd in century 21st of the Gregorian calander 😂.

What happened in this episode?

George gets ripped off for the big salad.

Elaine is hit on by a creep

Kramer deals with a potential murderer.

Jerry dates a hot lady that once dated postal worker Newman.

The story and the production overview: one of Seinfelds best because it was carried very well by George, postal worker Newman and Jerry's storyline.

Highlight: Jerry finding out his archnemisis went out with postal worker Newman.

George telling Jerry his girl taking Credit for the big salad and Jerry looking around lost.

George big salad dance.

Laugh meter: 10

Girlfriend attractiveness level: Jerrys girl was a beaut a good 9.8. I love the curls.

George's girl a soild 3.7.

Overall: a nice episode to relax to.

What can be learned? Give credit when and where it's due.

Verdict: Can I have a big salad with lettuce tomato, olives and feta cheese?

George was right
safenoe16 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It's not often Seinfeld fans agree with George's actions, but in The Big Salad i really think George was right in putting on the record that he purchased the Big Salad which his temporary girlfriend Julie (played by Michelle Forbes, who later appeared in one of the best police dramas of all time, Homicide: Life on the Street) unjustifiably claimed credit for the Big Salad and accepting thanks from Elaine. George paid for the Big Salad and he deserves the thanks from Elaine, and George was right to set the record straight with Elaine because it was a Big Salad.

I'm enjoying re-watching Seinfeld.

Who's right?

Warning: Spoilers
George buys Elaine the big salad but his girlfriend Julie hands it to Elaine and seems to take credit for it . Who really overreacted more? Elaine for complaining to Julie about George confronting her also not even reimbursing anyone for it ? Is it George for not letting it go? Or maybe it's actually Julie? She said she just handed it to Elaine and Elaine thanked her not them nor George. Should she have let it slide with Elaine instead of saying George bought it? I can actually see George's point here.

Jerry on the other hand ends another relationship because he can't get over finding out she ( Margaret an intelligent and beautiful lawyer) once dated Newman and he dumped her.

Elaine ends up dating a stationary store clerk over a pencil for Mr. Pitt ( yes it's true!)

Kramer may be mixed up in a murder and fears he may have made things worse.

A funny episode that will make you think whose side are you on in each situation.

Elaine Is To Blame
danireviews7 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The Big Salad episode is about Elaine thanking George's girlfriend, Julie, for getting her a big salad to go from the diner, even though unbeknownst to Elaine, George is the one who bought it. In typical George fashion, his refusal to let it go damages his relationships with both women.

Perhaps George should have let the whole thing go, but let's look at who's really to blame: Elaine.

After declining to get lunch with George and Judy, Elaine is the one who asks, "How about if you bring me back something?"

At no point during the rest of their interaction does Elaine offer to pay for her own meal. She assumes that George will pay for it, and therein lies the real issue.

Shouldn't you reach for your wallet when you ask someone to buy you something, be it edible or non-edible? Isn't it presumptuous of you to assume the other person will buy it?

Julie shouldn't have taken credit for George's kind gesture; it was a bit naggy for George to try and seek out a 'thank you' from Elaine, and Julie should have apologized to both of them. But Elaine was at fault from the get-go.

It's still a hilarious episode, though.

George Ruins Another One
Samuel-Shovel21 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
"The Big Salad" has George ruin another relationship over a petty dispute. This time's it's about who gets to hand a meal to Elaine based on who paid for it. Jerry finds out the girl he's dating once dated Newman. The worst part? Newman broke up with her! Meanwhile, Kramer's convinced a petty dispute with a friend caused a friend to murder a dry cleaner.

This episode's chalk full of comedic bits. Whether it's Kramer retelling his story of the golf penalty or Jerry's interaction with Newman, this one's full of laughs. Maybe not as memorable as many other episodes around this time, but still a good one.

A clunker, but with one redeeming feature
sullymazda11 May 2015
Not much going for it. And the subplot involving the baseball catcher killing the dry cleaner is more than just a bit distasteful. A REAL murder? In a situation comedy? No. However, the episode does has one saving grace(and, the bit with Newman having previously dumped Jerry's current girlfriend was inventive). We're supposed to always think that George is a horse's ass, and therefore could never possibly be right about something. But...as the old saying goes... Even a broken clock is right twice a day. He was dead on at being upset with his girlfriend for overstepping her mark. Or, at least, he wasn't 100% wrong.First, right off the bat, she shouldn't have even picked up the package containing the salad when it was placed on the table at the diner when they were leaving. Secondly, I'm sorry, but she most certainly should have mentioned that George paid for the item when presenting it to Elaine.Lastly, when confronted about it, she shows no remorse despite the fact that he does, indeed, have a point. Indicating that the woman, despite her being able to discuss her favorite newspaper columnists (yawn)--together with her apparent humorlessness--(Jerry cracks a joke in the beginning of the episode, and he gets nothing out of her)-- really isn't all she's cracked up to be.
