This was really pretty good but ultimately fizzled out in the final act. The GELFs were interesting and even the lengthy opening of them exercising was surprisingly effective. Also this level of sci-fi, genetic engineering gone awry, felt appropriate for this show.
However, the continued attempts to ape TNG are so transparent, it's hilarious. They add in Dagwood, a very Data like character, and they even add in a Deanna Troi type empath! And, like season two of TNG, a main character grows a beard and they get rid of the Beverly Crusher of the first season.
As if it were that simple to ape TNG's success.
It's true that TNG also struggled in its first couple of seasons, but they didn't radically reboot it at the start of each season the way Seaquest did. And by doing that, they guaranteed they would lose the viewers that liked the prior season.
