Darlene ain't No Goody Two Shoes

Warning: Spoilers
I disagree with ComedyFan2010 on the Darlene being a goody two shoes bit. She's far from it, actually. For example, in The Dark Ages episode, David wants to have sex with Darlene because the electricity is out, but Darlene refuses. Why? Because she doesn't want to. She always does things on her terms, and only if she wants to and she's been that way since day one of the show airing. She's an intelligent, witty girl and wasn't willing to hang out with strange guys that were obviously wanting to take advantage of her and Molly. Just because she uses her brain doesn't mean she's Miss Goody Goody. Trust me, she does plenty of things throughout the show that you'd consider rebellious or backhanded. At the same time, Darlene does have some morals. She refuses to eat meat because she views animals deserving life and hates them being exploited. Even working on a history paper, she pointed out to Becky that she didn't want to write lies about Columbus being a great guy when in reality he'd killed and enslaved natives. Underneath her sarcasm and realist attitude, Darlene as a character is a relate-able, good kid and cares about things even if she makes jokes. As a teenager, I was able to relate to her and I still can now even in my 30's.

Good Girls, Bad Girls (#5.10)

Warning: Spoilers
Molly has an extra ticket to a concert that Darlene wants to go to. So she goes with her. But instead of going right after the concert home Molly is hanging out with guys on a parking lot. So Darlene ends up going home very late. Dan and Roseanne are mad at her but then find out that she is telling the truth.

Darlene is a bit of a goody two shoes. Can't believe she wouldn't want to party after the concert. But I guess it is to show how different people are from what we expect them to be. She is more of a good girl than Molly or Becky and we would expect otherwise. Still, parts of it did indeed feel like an after school special.

Molly's sister Charlotte is really funny though. How she is too shy to even ask to stay when it is raining. Watching Roseanne dealing with her is pretty funny.
