Jim's little printer that he oft-uses to print up phony business cards makes an appearance. This episode gives the best description of where it came from; "an old client is a printer, and [Jim] told him what [he] needed, and he designed it for [him]." In fact, the device is not custom-made, but a production item: the "Chicago #11" letterpress manufactured by John Sigwalt circa 1910 and based on a near-identical press designed and manufactured by the J.F.W. Dorman Co. it apparently survived the two previous exploding Firebirds.
At one point, Jim Rockford calls Susan Alexander a "Fearless Fosdick." This was the name of a comic strip character who was a parody of Dick Tracy. It was created by Al Capp, the man behind the famous comic Li'l Abner.
During lunch with Susan Alexander, Rockford is drinking a Dos XX.
The brand name of the camera Susan Alexander (Joan Van Ark) uses during the boat chase is obscured by black tape. This was done to avoid having to pay licensing fees.
