"Grant of Land" opens with Johnny Yuma breaking up a beating upon Paul Travis (Paul Richards), a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient who is allowed a grant of land in the South, with the locals none too pleased to find a Union Lieutenant living next to them. Ellen Barton (Ruta Lee) and her foreman Chad (Ed Nelson, second of five) reside on the neighboring property, outraged that Yuma, one of their own, would deign to give aid to the enemy. Johnny gets through to her his reasons for helping Travis plow his land, that no man earns such a distinction for killing but for fighting for what he believes in. Watching Travis day after day leads Yuma to conclude that the man is no farmer, wondering who he was before the war, and sending a message to Washington to discover the truth behind the former Lieutenant. Ben Wright (second of three) has a good role as the store owner, with a smaller part for George Becwar (fourth of seven).
