- Gil Favor: On the trail to Sedalia, Missouri - day to day - you fall into the habit of tryin' to read your men, guess what makes 'em tick. But you don't make much headway. Isn't easy to figure grown-up humans who take this kind of life for thirty bucks a month and keep. So you finally give up. And you're just glad there's a breed like 'em to get the beeves to where they're goin'. I've got a good reason to be glad. My name's Gil Favor, trail boss.
- Gil Favor: [Mr Favor speaks to Wishbone in utter confidence] Well, Wishbone, the way I figure, you're the only man in this whole outfit smart enough to be able to handle a thing like that.
- Wishbone: Mr Favor! I don't mind being the blacksmith, or even the barber. But there's one thing I'm NOT and, NOT GONNA be, and that's a mother! Now, you just take this cub right now!
- Gil Favor: We'll drop it off at the next town.
- Wishbone: The next? Well, that's two weeks from now!
- Gil Favor: Mother's dead. Father's dead too probably. But we'll find somebody to take it off your hands.
- Wishbone: Off my hands? In two weeks! Get somebody else to take this off my hands right now! No!
- Gil Favor: Hey, Wish, what kind is it anyway? Boy or girl?
- Wishbone: [Wish checks no one is looking, turns his back to Mr Favor, and almost as proud as any new father, reveals] It's a boy!
- [They both grin and laugh like proud new parents]
- Gil Favor: Congratulations!
- Gil Favor: And where you going?
- Rowdy Yates: Oh ah, I figured on milking me a buffalo cow.
- Gil Favor: You what?
- Rowdy Yates: Yeah, well, ah.
- Gil Favor: Well, ah, we're moving the herd along in an hour. You figure you got time to, ah, find a buffalo, and milk it? Eat your morning meal, and be ready to kick the herd along in an hour?
- Rowdy Yates: Well, I, ah, figured on passing on the morning meal.
- Gil Favor: Well, ah, as long as you're ready when we are.
- Rowdy Yates: You mean, as long as Mama Buffalo's ready!
- Pete Nolan: Howdy Rowdy. You're supposed to milk that buffalo not wrestle it.
- Wishbone: I've seen less beat up things come out from under a rock.
