This Beverly Hills, 90210 meets Ally McBeal mix, worked perfectly. For a teen drama of late 90s, Popular is still very accurate. It's my third or so time rewatching the show, and you just can't not see how good and well written it was. And in this episode in particular, you have several moments of comedy gold. The Sam/Brooke feud is at its peak, and the food fight is a great cathartic experience. The drama is also done thoroughly, and you get even more into the human interactions, between the cliques. Because they are supposed to hate each other. To me, the first half of season 1, set the bar really high. And everything leading to this « event » in particular, felt like a new chapter was about to start, with the heroines parents, who've decided to move in together. Because, they obviously really loved each other, and wanted to give their daughters a good lesson too...
