One I will never forget
burglar-526 November 2006
It has been many years since I saw this episode, and while I cannot recall every detail, I can remember exactly where I was, my surroundings and the effect it had on me like it was yesterday. My son was nine and had some of his friends over. If you've ever had an apartment full of nine-year-olds, you know it's difficult to concentrate on anything else, but from the opening scene, when guest star Richard Kiley is stopped for speeding and handcuffed by overly enthusiastic cop Lauren Holly, I was transfixed for the entire hour. Fortunately, no major emergencies erupted in my house. As I said, I cannot recall plot details, but I can remember clearly that every character storyline merged perfectly into the others, and I had an experience, an epiphany even, about what family really means. Funny how you don't need to recall facts to bring back what really matters. Something very Proustian about that. I can't wait until the DVD comes out. I hear it's been put off until June, '07. Loved that show.

Ugly People Mistreating Each Other

While the central issue in this episode is the May/December relationship of Jill's father and the young woman, there is one nasty thing after another going on. I have watched several episodes now, and for the most part I find Jill to be smug, shortsighted, and judgmental. The father had every right to live his own life after eight years, and an effort to malign the young woman by looking into her history was beyond the pale. The kids were the positives here. Also, can you imagine waking up to Douglas Wambaugh each morning. I think a logical ending would be the serving of divorce papers which should have happened long ago. Ugh!
