Good Handling of Time Travel Implication
Hitchcoc27 March 2014
Time travel is always a problem in science fiction from the simple fact that time would be mutable. When one reverses a decision in the past, what are the broad implications of that action. Also, does the time traveler maintain knowledge of the present and the past. This is responded to in this episode. A series of murders have taken place and young rape victim is responsible. She is going back in time to kill men whom she knows will eventually become violent rapists. This woman is played by Amanda Plummer who made a career out of playing many slightly unbalanced characters. Enter the police who have found fingerprints from past cases, linking Plummer's character to murders committed when she was in kindergarten. That's the story. We see Plummer go through a kind of time tunnel to locations where the pre-rapists are. She carries a gun and removes them cold-bloodedly. The interesting part of the story is how the young police detective maneuvers through the fourth dimension. This would make a good case study for a physics class.

My favourite episode
andrew-herbst9 September 2011
I like the time travel stories generally and this is one of the best. There is a scientist, and a cop, and multiple trips back in time all resulting in a new present day situation upon return. The best part about time travel stories in my view is not going back to see the past, but going back in time to change the past in order to change the present. This episode does a wonderful job at illustrating the effects and side effects of doing this.

I won't discuss any plot details, but if you like this sort of story you will be glad you watched it.

The acting by both Amanda Plummer and Michelle Forbes is excellent! Andrew Airlie is superb as well. Watch the incredible eye contact between Plummer and Forbes meeting in a scene near the end communicating a combination of discovery and understanding.

Solid storyline, excellent performances
netguy12316 January 2009
Amanda Plummer fully deserves her Emmy Award for her portrayal of Dr. Theresa Givens. Michelle Forbes as FBI agent Jamie Pratt also gives a great performance. The writing and storyline is excellent. But an excellent story still requires strong performances to bring it all together. And for this show it certainly was there. Gripping from start to finish. No plastic looking aliens who can speak English here. Just a captivating story with an outstanding performance by Amanda Plummer. This story will keep you thinking even after the credits roll. I can't help but feel that some of the more recent movies (eg. Butterfly Effect seemed to have borrowed heavily from here.) Even if you are not into sci-fi, watch it for the strong storyline and amazing performances! You will not regret it.

The Best Episode of the Series

Compelling story with great acting. Not a single flaw in the script. At the very end I actually applauded -- it was that perfect. This is science fiction at its best!

Fantastic! Outstanding Time Travel Story!
richard.fuller110 February 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Two powerhouse contributing elements by the names of Amanda Plummer and Michelle Forbes didn't hurt either! Plummer is Dr. Theresa Givens, a rape survivor, who has invented a time machine and travels back in time to kill mass murderers AFTER they have been executed IN THE PRESENT for their crimes.

Her reasoning is that they were found guilty, she will kill them before they even start.

This, needless to say, drastically alters time left and right, with only Dr. Givens maintaining any memory of the changed past. It begins to affect her medically, yet she pushes on.

Michelle Forbes is the investigating police woman. An assortment of victims, all of them white men, are turning up shot with the same caliber bullet, some killed before the bullet was manufactured.

Just a mystery to be solved.

Forbes goes to speak to Plummer by chance.

Then Plummer executes yet another killer in the past.

Now Forbes has no recollection of her first meeting with Plummer, and by chance she goes again.

Plummer doesn't try to hide her knowledge of having already met Forbes. She tells Forbes what she has been doing.

She has one more criminal to execute.

Forbes follows her to where Plummer was raped as a young girl.

The events that transpire with Forbes having to understand what is going on and deal with Plummer and the rapist (who has his own gun) and what preventing Plummer's own attack (which caused her to seek her justice in the future-present) is one solid piece of work.

In the end, we are handed a much more stable Plummer, who, as a teacher, can communicate better with her students, yet who still has the knowledge to invent time travel.

And we given Forbes, who now has a reason to continue with Plummer's work.

Forbes final decision really does make you feel sorry for the murderers and rapists, and truthfully, Plummer's reasoning, even when we understand them, doesn't have us rooting for her either.

But we sure aren't hoping they will be stopped either.

Apparently there was a sequel in 2000 (this one came out in 1996) and Plummer reprises her Dr. Givens role, no doubt the second one. Haven't seen that one.

THE best episode of the series
thatsweetbird9 February 2019
I'm not going to pretend ive seen Every episode of this series. Despite liking sci fi I find much of the series not very interesting, Especially stretched out to its hour long duration.

But I'm also a fan of true crime. Mix that with my favorite sci-fi trope of time travel And you have this episode.

Wonderful cast of Plummer and Forbes. Provocative story as the best sci fi is.

One of the best episodes
gyre-3840730 December 2019
This episode is one of the best time travel TV episodes of all time of any series, comparable to Dr Who's Blink in quality and time travel concepts.

The acting is exceptional. Plummer gets all the kudos, but Forbes deserves as much praise.

Superbly laid out science fiction; keeps you thinking!
wilfredmcduffie26 March 2006
Trust me; you will enjoy this production. It is a well-written, well acted episode. It is one of the best ever science fiction offerings! You don't need to know anything about the story to love it. Just go along for the ride!! You probably should see it twice to enjoy everything about it. It stars stunning Michelle Forbes and veteran actress Amanda Plummer. Forbes retains that special "something" that we all love about her! Of course Amanda takes a back seat to no one in the acting department! As you will see; her complex and intense performance is outstanding! The director of course deserves a lot credit for putting together a smoothly crafted highly entertaining product.

I don't want to explain the plot or anything because you will enjoy it more by letting it unfold in front of you!(I did and I was blown away!) I loved the little twists and turns in the story and also the "rules" the plot is governed by.

Of course you will like it most and understand the plot thoroughly if you like science fiction to begin with.

I know it is fiction but it's my favorite! (I have both a DVD and a High Def copy of it) Check it out for yourself! You won't be disappointed

P.S. You audiophiles out there will notice something in the production (that only we will notice)but We forgive them for doing it nevertheless.

Duff.
