Felix a pugilist wonder?
hitchcockthelegend28 July 2008
Oscar upsets the rough and ready Splint McCullough, a grizzled hockey player who spends as much time in the penalty box for fighting as he does on the ice. Oscar gets a black eye for his troubles and sets about writing a savage sports report to further darken McCullough's name, this greatly concerns Felix so Felix sets off to confront McCullough in a calm and gentile manner, but he also falls foul of the big goon and winds up in a boxing contest with him.

A solid if easily forgotten episode, the high point being that the calm and prim Felix is seemingly oblivious to the peril he faces. Coming across as a sort of David Versus Goliath parable, The Fight Of The Felix is charming enough but suffers from Oscar taking a back seat to the main core of the story. 7/10

Warning: Spoilers
Early on you could see why The Odd Couple was going to be such a fan favorite. This episode highlighted the entertaining dynamic between Felix and Oscar and inspired many future characters on sitcoms for decades.

The boxing stuff was mildly amusing, but I thought the hockey player was not cast well. They could have used someone more charismatic.

The Fight Of The Felix

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is fairly interesting , funny but it lacks a good plot.

It has all of the funny slapstick needed but it is just has a very stupid plot about Felix boxing against a jealous hockey player. It ends with a silly scene in the boxing ring in which Felix gets a pain in his back and Oscar takes the punch for him. The characters still aren't established and it still holds onto the old bar fight jokes and silly slapstick.

Overall it is a fairly amusing 21 minute but it just fails to impress. It is fairly nice acted and solidly directed but it still hasn't got the charm of the second - fifth season episodes will get.
