I Like Adam
Hitchcoc12 February 2024
The central focus is on Joel's ex-fiancee whose husband, an elderly judge whom she married within days of meeting him, dies. She shows up unannounced at Joel's. He immediately assume she wants him back and gets really defensive, if not downright cruel. Maggie picks up on this and antagonizes him, saying that she is just looking for a friend. This leads to some touching moments. Adam, the crazy cook, comes trying to borrow money from Joel. He is a hilarious character who is combative. Since Joel won't give him money, he gets a job as a cook at the Brick and soon customers are flocking to the place. The less interesting bit is Chris having dreams about African tribal dances. Then, who should show up but his brother. There is lots of deep thought but it really doesn't got far. They treat Africa as if it is one place with one culture and the same societal mores. Adam actually realizes this and chastises them. The final scene is quite nice.
