Diane's abusive father is shot and killed. Her passive brother is ready to take the rap. We know things don't go that easily. The problem isn't the twisted mystery plot; it's the absurd use of police protocol that stretches the bounds of reality. A second plot involves a nasty guy who also abuses his wife and threatens to kill her. In his railings, he refers to a guy he killed eight years previously.

For some reason the writers of NYPD Blue decided to junk realism and insert pure Hollywood fiction. The result was the weakest episode viewed.
The main story in this episode concerns Russell's father being killed in a domestic argument. To create dramatic scenes Russell is allowed to run the questioning of her family, which would never be allowed in any type of investigation.
The secondary story dealt with an eight year old murder that Andy solved without too many problems.
The episode has none of the zip of earlier shows but since the series lasted another ten years it must have been a miss step in a long list of episodes.
