Just too good - Bitty Schram was superb
safenoe20 January 2020
In this episode Monk falls head over heels with a murder suspect who resembles his deceased wife Trudi. Monk is on cloud 9 but Sharona (Bitty Schram) is hardly impressed at all. One LOL and poignant scene (all credit to the writing team) is when Bitty angrily flings Monk his pyjamas for a sleepover with the murder suspect. This scene captured the essence of Sharona's relationship with Monk.

READ AFTER WATCHING - Monk is led on, but being a Detective comes thru
radarfirs721 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A lot of mistakes r/t the Garage motion light. Stotylmier & Monk disagree about the Motion light. Stotylmier says the woman was standing where the Light was, and the light somehow freaked her out and she smashed it, but (1) thats where the Dog was, (2) the original Suspect a Green Beret when he comes up to the Garage he can see his dog, (Yes, they don't know that) so the perp would not be standing there, but later they would know the Dog was there. (3) the actual murderer easily shows he has NO Nerve, so how was he able to hide where the Garage Door rails are close to outside, and not be noticed by a Green Beret? (4) The Dog is trying to warn his owner of someone near, let's see Owner is a Green Beret still in shape, knows his dog (Other than not knowing the Dog is Not Pure Bred), Spec Ops do go on Missions with Dogs that are not only trained to be quite (So a Green Beret would have a trained dog) and would only bark to warn, and usually they don't even bark but still able to warn their Handler / Owner. so the Green Beret would NOT be asking the Dog, but would have his "Spider Sense" screaming to look around. The Shovel would have been used on the Suspect, not a Green Beret who owns a Security Company, and (5) Green Beret, Owns Security Company, Owns multiple Guns, and does not Carry? (6) If the Audience can see the Dog, and where the Perp with the Shovel is supposed to be Standing, how does the Green Beret miss him? (7) the Woman 's Husband has OCD also and showed thru the Show she keeps a very clean home & Garage, so if she was the murderer, and accidently broke the Motion Lights, she would have Cleaned the Area just like Monk would have.

Oh, I was a USN / USMC Corpsman with time with Recon, and had a Training Mission or two against US Army with Rangers, and Green Berets ... so know their Skills. If a Show has a Character with SpecOps skills, maybe should have a SpecOps Advisor for at least those shows?

Poor Mr. Monk
danrs0000085 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
While working a case Monk meets a gorgeous woman who was/is married to a man who is similar to Monk as far as cleanliness and organization goes. He even has a hilarious plutonic sleepover at her place. She seems to be the perfect new Mrs Monk, but unfortunately she's not available.

"I don't mind change. I just don't like to be there when it happens"
TheLittleSongbird10 July 2017
'Monk' has always been one of my most watched shows when needing comfort, to relax after a hard day, a good laugh or a way to spend a lazy weekend.

"Mr Monk and the Other Woman" is another Season 1 classic, is what 'Monk' is all about and reminds me of what I love and watch the show in the first place. Season 1 is a very solid season, which is really impressive considering how quite a number of shows have rocky first seasons where it takes time to settle, whereas 'Monk' is one of the rarities that has had everything so well established so early on. "Mr Monk and the Other Woman" is one of the best episodes of the season and a personal favourite of the show too.

One of the best things about 'Monk' has always been the acting of Tony Shalhoub in the title role, it was essential for him to work and be the glue of the show, and Shalhoub not only is that but also at his very best he IS the show. Have always loved the balance of the humour, which is often hilarious, and pathos, which is sincere and touching. It is remarkable here that right from the first episode to when the show ended that one likes him straight away, even with his quirks and deficiencies that could easily have been overplayed, and also that he is better developed than most titular characters of other shows at this particular stage. Who can't help love Monk's brilliant mind too? He is very well supported by a sharp and no-nonsense but also sympathetic Bitty Schram, whose Sharona makes for a worthy and entertaining partner for Monk's sleuthing and somebody with a maternal side. There is always a debate at who's better between Sharona and Natalie, personally like both in their own way and consider them both attractive though as of now leaning towards Natalie as the better acted and more attentive of the two.

Also by a very amusing, and sometimes even funnier than that, Ted Levine, what a difference from his Buffalo Bill in 'The Silence of the Lambs', while Jason Gray-Stanford is almost up there with the other three leads though his material isn't always as inspired in general.

It's not just the cast though. Another star is the writing, which is also essential to whether the show would be successful or not and succeed it does here. The mix of hilarious wry humour, lovable quirkiness and tender easy-to-relate-to drama is delicately done but extremely deft. The chemistry between Monk and Monica that is the driving force of the episode and also what makes it story-wise. Can't help loving Monk's response to being asked whether everything has to make sense, a lot of people would relate to that.

The case is a strong one and avoids being too conventional thanks to the chemistry between Monk and Monica, with a well done final solution that isn't easily guessable and isn't convoluted either.

Visually, the episode is shot in a slick and stylish way, and the music is both understated and quirky. Much prefer the jazzy Season 1 theme tune to the later "It's a Jungle Out There", which always struck me before as one of my least favourite assets of 'Monk' but has since grown on me, which should have been kept. It's all very capably directed throughout by none other by Adam Arkin, the first of the three actors to play Dale "The Whale" Biederbeck in "Mr Monk Meets Dale the Whale".

Overall, a 'Monk' classic. 10/10 Bethany Cox

Might be my favorite episode of season 1 since the Pilot episode

Warning: Spoilers
This is a great episode I enjoyed. While the case itself takes a backseat, we get to know more about Adrian Monk and his connection to her wife, now Monica reminds him Trudy and mannerisms , so the episode plays out beautifully.

Funny moments: Adrian washing his teeth and forgetting about the dinner Sharona having to pack his suitcases Adrian getting kissed and he doesn't mind that much

The Best So Far
Hitchcoc29 February 2020
Putting aside a moment of elation from the depths of despair he feels for Trudy, this is a nicely done detective plot. Monk finds the perfect woman and she resembles Trudy. A man has been killed and all roads lead to a macho guy. He lives next door to a beautiful woman whom Monk gets to know. Once again, the Captin gets things wrong and continually disses Monk. Very good twists and turns and some touching moments.

Entertaining enough
grantss26 July 2022
Not the greatest Monk episode. The resolution seems to come out of nowhere, involving characters we are meeting for the first time.

However, as always with Monk much of the entertainment is not related to the mystery and this episode is no exception.

In particular, Monk's romantic involvement with one of the suspects is interesting and leads to some funny moments.

No resemblance

She really doesn't look at all like Trudy. But Sharona really looks like Penny from Big Bang Theory.

The Will and the Woman
claudio_carvalho8 April 2024
A masked man breaks in the office of a lawyer and kills him and his assistant. Then he burns a file in the garbage basket. Stottlemeyer suspects of Lawrence Grayson, whose file was the only one burnt in the office. Monk goes to the house of Grayson to help the investigation and sees his beautiful neighbor, Monica Water that makes him recall Trudy. Grayson has a beef with her since she built garage near his house. Monica is a tidy woman with a very well-organized garage and Monk kind of falls for her and invites her to have dinner with him. When Grayson is murdered, Stottlemeyer suspects that Monica may be a serial-killer and requests a court order to investigate her garage believing that the body of her husband may be buried there. But Monk once again solves the case and finds the killer.

"Mr. Monk and the Other Woman" is a great episode of "Monk", with a story with a surprising end. The participation of the sweet and gorgeous Maria del Mar is the reason why this episode works so well, with a melancholic conclusion. My vote is eight.
