The return of Caitlin...ugh...but WHAT AN ENDING!!!
cory552127 July 2012
It was a mistake to ever have Crockett get married and this episode features the return of Caitlin, his current wife, who took a couple episodes off doing her L.A. music thing. The series took a serious dip when Crockett got hitched, complete with a ridiculous hair style that was some sort of rock band mullet (that has since been trimmed). So when I saw Caitlin was back I was worried this episode would suck and his hair would start creeping down his back again. However, this episode also features the return of an enemy of Crockett's who's acting is excellent, as it was in his first appearance.

There are nice splashes of style here and there including Sheena Easton's MV singing debut (I was wondering when she was going to) which actually isn't that bad.

Up to half way through, this episode was less than impressive until a dramatic occurrence changes everything. Now you get to see some great acting by Johnson, a couple decent appearances from Thomas and an ending that nobody saw coming, which was one of the best in all of MV.

Not a bad episode. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

A tragedy for Crockett
Tweekums24 July 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This episode opens with a flashback to episode 3.11 'Forgive Us Our Debts' which reminds us of how Crockett was tricked into getting the man who killed his partner, Frank Hackman, off death row and back on the streets. Two years later a gang break into a house and kill the family; Crockett is convinced that Hackman is involved due to the MO. The investigation does indeed lead them to Hackman but he manages to escape during a brief fire fight; his wife isn't lucky and is killed in the crossfire. It turns out that the bullet that killed her came from Hackman's gun but he either doesn't know or doesn't care and takes revenge on Crockett in the worst way possible; he shoots Caitlin. While still dealing with the loss Crockett learns that Caitlin was pregnant at the time. After a few weeks leave Crockett returns to work just in time to get a lead on Hackman's location; the only real question now is what will Crockett do when he finds him?

After the disappointment of getting a clip show in the previous episode things are much better here even if the 'previously on Miami Vice' section was a little longer than strictly necessary. Hackman made a particularly unpleasant villain before so it was good to see Crockett finish his unfinished business even if the cost was high. The story is solid and when 'the tragic moment' occurs it is likely to come as a shock to anybody who hasn't had it spoilt. This episode sees a particularly fine performance from Don Johnson as he depicts Crockett's grief at the loss of his wife and unborn child. The ending will inevitably have consequences for Crockett and it will be interesting to see how they are handled in upcoming episodes.

Bit anti climatic :( Airwolf now that was a powerful one . And first episode too
PatrynXX11 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I kinda expected a big deal with this one. In the end. It was okay but but the emotional impact was nil. Airwolf's pilot was not. True it meant that nothing after that Episode matched up to that one but ... well we did lose Diana Rigg today and even that ending , however short had more emotion behind it. (We have all the time in the world) .... Couple of peeves. 1. 7 months pregnant? um I know a couple who are 6 months pregnant. Very much showing. 7 months? not showing at ll. maybe 2 months or less... 2. FILTERS. Very annoying use of filters. Sometimes they work but since the emotion was nil (like compared to Brother's Keeper) they didn't mean much. Still I'll grant it a 7. Just wanted to air 7 months (ha) filters and emotional let down. Gina had more emotional impact 2 episodes before this. And Don's has more emotional episodes than this. Think it's just that Season 4 was not well put together to begin with...

Best MV ever
heccrone7 July 2019
This dramatic episode not only marked the transformation to the closing season but marked the start of an existential crisis for Crockett. The acting level rises to unprecedented heights. Johnson should receive an Oscar for the cool, modest way in which he embodies "the man in crisis." The atmosphere in this episode is breathtaking and recalls the best work of Hitchcock and Scorsese and the music of Jan Hammer expresses precisely the sub-tensions and fears of our heroes. The best MV ever and it would only get better. 10 out of 10.
