With a war correspondent, Brad Devery, on the island Binghamton wants any story to be about him. So Binghamton sends McHale and his crew on a reconnaissance to a sleepy island named Kaliki. The purpose of this mission is to get McHale away from the base so that Binghamton can have the newsman all to himself.

Instead of going to the tired island of Kaliki, McHale and his crew go to an island nearby where they can party with the locals. During their party a lone Japanese fighter comes by and damages the PT boat plus the radio. They are going to be stranded on the island until some repairs can be made.

In the meantime, Kaliki island is being invaded by the Japanese army. There is a large battle with many casualties. And when Binghamton cannot get in contact with PT 73, he thinks the worse. Binghamton then plays up the lost of McHale to the newsman for a front page story. But little does Binghamton know that PT 73 will be returning just about the time he has planned a memorial for the crew.

This story, even though done many times in many TV shows, was cleverly done and kept the viewer interesting from beginning till end. It is becoming obvious that Ernest Borgnine and Joe Flynn play well against each other and make for an entertaining pair. This is a combination that makes the show exciting. Nice watch.
