- Officer Margaret Sereno: Do I threaten your masculinity McCloud?
- Sam McCloud: No. Do I threaten yours?
- Sgt. Joe Broadhurst: Chief, you want me to go with you?
- Peter B. Clifford: No. I can't stand being laughed at in front of my own men.
- Sam McCloud: [in telephone cel] Are you tellin' me to quit?
- Peter B. Clifford: [on phone in office] Do you want to?
- Sam McCloud: Well, it seems kinda foolish just to go half way across the desert just to back off at the well.
- Peter B. Clifford: Huh, alright. Stay inside as long as you think it's safe. But the minute that well starts to look the least bit murky, you bail out.
- Sam McCloud: There ya go.
- Peter B. Clifford: The auto squad's been trained to handle these things, McCloud.
- Sam McCloud: Well, the auto squad's been knockin' on their door for a year now. It's time to have someone on the inside to open it for 'em.
- Officer Margaret Sereno: Thirty thousand cops in the city and I gotta draw a cowboy who breaks windows instead 'a horses, I don't understand.
- Phil Sandler: Now I tell you we have a phoney working for us and you sit there like an old woman waiting for her wash to dry.
- Chris Coughlin: Your new... partner is a woman?
- Sam McCloud: [chuckles] Well, that's... that's what they tell me. O'course, it's gonna take, take more than long hair and a short skirt to convince me.
