Another 10/10 As The Season Draws To A Close

Another great episode of "Married With Children" in season five.

Plot In A Paragraph: After getting a map to a gold mine, Al, Peggy, Kelly and Bud along with Mary and Jefferson go I search of gold looking to get rich. Initially they do well, but then "Gold Fever" takes a grip of the group and they all turn on each other.

Unlike the previous two part episode "You Better Shop Around" the second episode of "Route 666" is the better of the two. All the cast are superb, Ed O'Neil is hilarious as Al Bundy, Katey Sagal is fun as Peggy, The gorgeous Christina Applegate and David Faustino are great as Kelly and Bud, while Amanda Bearse and Ted McGinley get a decent amount of screen time as Marcy and Jefferson. I've got to say I do like Ted McGinley, I think he is a valued member of the cast, and he has decent chemistry with Bearse too.

Season 5 of Married With Children is the show at the height of it's greatness.

Fails to strike comedic gold.

Having bought a gold mine from a crazy old codger, The Bundys and the D'Arcys go looking for their fortune. Amazingly, they strike it rich, but gold-fever leads to greed and distrust.

Part two of Route 666 is marginally better than the first, but this is still far from top tier MWC: there's not a lot in the way of great dialogue, the episode resorting to gratuitous eye-candy of both sexes (in Peggy and Al's fantasies) and some silliness involving a tarantula.

I'm not against MWC featuring hot women in sexy attire (au contraire, it's one of the things I enjoy about the show), but I do expect some memorable one-liners to go with the T&A (especially from Al and Bud). It all feels a bit lazy and predictable, especially when it is revealed that the gold they have found is actually worthless 'fool's gold', all part of a tourist attraction.
