Season eight ends on a high with a really funny episode. I don't usually enjoy the ones that revolve around Al's love of sports, but this is pure class.
The Bundys' television set blows up after twenty years of use so Al applies to go on a new game show called Touchdown Trivia, top prize being $10,000. During the rehearsal, Al gets all of his questions right, but isn't chosen to go on the show because of his obnoxious personality. When Al learns that attractive girls are almost guaranteed to be chosen as contestants, he gets Kelly to apply. Bud explains that her brain can be filled with trivia, but for every new piece of information she learns, an old fact is forced out.
With her brain full of sport's knowledge, Kelly makes it to the final, but one vital nugget of local sports history has been sacrificed.
Al beating the other players during the rehearsals is great, the man finding it so easy that he consumes a burger and has a shave while answering. Kelly learning about sports is also excellent, the process shown in a hilarious training montage that starts with the girl learning that a banana isn't a sports personality. The ending, in which Kelly forgets that it is her own father who scored four touchdowns in one game, is predictable, but still very funny. Oh well, at least she wins a new television set as a consolation prize, so Al is happy.
