An appropriate "bookend" to the previous episode
DVD_Connoisseur1 November 2018
Thematically, "The Taking of Dick McWilliams" has quite a lot in common with the previous episode. Both feature ageing and flawed, larger-than-life titular characters.

There are some spectacular helicopter scenes during a chase sequence, one of the trademarks of "Magnum, P.I." There's even a little nod to another Universal Hawaii-based detective show.

This has something of a "filler" episode feeling, though. It's good but not great, missing some of the sparkle of the majority of Season 2 episodes.

7 out of 10.

Good episode.

The Taking of Dick McWilliams us a good episode. I do not think McWilliams would be made today. Too real. Too touchy. I wonder if such a story really happened or sort. A husband is missing which the father in law hates. Old school vs new? Magnum must look for a former Navy friend, peals the onion. There is a few twists, and ugly scenes which reminds me of a Magazine true story. The Taking of Dick McWilliams close to a real life story. Well executed! 7 stars.

It's Dick

Warning: Spoilers
The episode description says "Dick's Japanese wife Mitsu ask TM to drop the ransom without informing the police or her father, who never approved of the marriage in the first place" but I wonder if Dick's wife was from Finland, would the description have said "Dick's Finnish wife" or what.

Anyway, Dick (played by Guy Stockwell) sets up his own kidnapping much to disastrous consequences.

Irene Yah-Ling Sun plays Mitsu.

Anyway, The Taking of Dick McWilliams is an okay episode, ordinary, but I guess Magnum, P. I. was finding its feet. Still, I haven't had the desire to watch the reboot at all.
