Interesting episode

Warning: Spoilers
One of the times there is a bit of a medical mystery the doctors must tackle. Frank also comes down with. LL was a better actor than he got credit for. He's hilarious when he out of his mind, You get the feeling he is naturally more like this more honest, less mean, childlike. He takes on a tougher demeanor when he's healthy and it seems to be a strain on him. He's also super greedy! That comes out when he's healthy, sick, awake or dreaming.

We see more shifting away as Frank and Margaret are slowly breaking apart. It takes all season but Margaret is getting along with BJ she likes and respects Col. Potter and things grow slowly more tolerable between Margaret and Hawkeye.

Frank no longer has that buddy to rat on everyone with as he doesn't care so much for Potter but he can't get around Potter . Potter's mere presence puts a huge dent in Frank's getting people in trouble.

Speaking of rats it plays a big part in the episode concerning the mystery illness and Father Mulkahy proves helpful in giving the doctors critical information.

There is also a soldier's of the month contest before during and after it happens.

Solid and funny episode.

Warning: Spoilers
Here Sergeant Zale and Private Igor get some decent screen time in this episode where the enlisted folk vie for a 6 day pass to Tokyo. I like Private Igor, played by Jeff Maxwell, who since 2018 has co-hosted the M*A*S*H Matters podcast with Ryan Patrick. Interestingly, since the show ended, Jeff had a greater appreciation of the fan's devotion to this fine series.

A Rat after a Rat
Hitchcoc12 March 2015
A mysterious disease is spreading through camp which causes kidneys to shut down. Frank and Hawkeye have been designated to try to hunt down rats since they seem to be a cause. The other is the creation of a Soldier of the Month contest. Since Frank is also in charge of that, people begin to butter him up. Also, Klinger gets his hands on a quiz the guys must take and plans to cheat on the exam. The exam is a hoot. Because of his contact with the rats, Frank gets sick and delusional. He begins to confess things to people. He is also brutally honest since he thinks he is dying. He decides to be "honest" with Margaret. There is a hilarious encounter when he tells Margaret how he is going to distribute his wealth.

Amusing And Funny!!
ellisel17 October 2007
The opening part of "Soldier of the Month" had Major Burns and Major Houlihan doing their work in post-operating section of the 4077th. Corporal Klinger -- in a surprisingly unusual manner -- worn his regular Army uniform and saluted his superiors in treating the patients. Private Stravinsky -- in a surprised move -- saluted Major Burns in the opening clip of this episode.

The patients were unaware of an unexpected illness. Their lungs were filled with liquids inside their systems ... causing internal drowning in their bodies. First Lieutenant Mulcahy told everyone about the ailment: hemorrhagic fever. The only recourse was to let the illness run its course. From there, Corporal Klinger and Major Burns were preparing mouse traps to catch the rodents in their tent. The former used his wife's fruitcake as bait ... not to mention using a homemade device to exterminate the rodents entirely. The latter suffered broken bones -- in agonizing pain -- from helping out Major Burns with his work. Captains Pierce and Hunnicutt would eventually find out about Major Burns contracting the disease.

Captains Pierce and Hunnicutt would eventually become prompters for the contest. Corporal O'Reilly would be the actual soldier whom would win the contest in an honest manner. Corporal Klinger -- in stark contrast -- wrote down the answers in a futile attempt to win a vacation in Tokyo ... obviously by cheating. Quite Funny!! A Fat 16!! Quite Entertaining from the 1975-1976 Television Season!!
