He Died with His Army Boots On, Sort Of
Hitchcoc5 March 2015
General Iron Guts Kelly visits the camp. He is a gregarious war monger. As he meets the usual suspects, he immediately takes a shine to Margaret (she seems to collect generals). They go off to her tent. During the night, she comes to the Swamp beside herself. It seems that while they are having an interlude (cool euphemism, huh!) the General has gone to his eternal reward. She is desperate enough to ask for help from Trapper and Hawkeye. She needs the General out of her tent. There is a hilarious scene where Frank comes to the tent and finds our boys playing gin (remember, it is the middle of the night). The General's aide need to make sure his death looks like a heroic one, and that sets a series of events in motion. This is a very creative episode although the business of dealing with a dead man goes back to early Hitchcock.

Warning: Spoilers
James Gregory plays Lt. Gen. Robert 'Iron Guts' Kelly in this very sensitive episode, which was from the third season of M*A*S*H. In fact, it guest stars Alberta Jay, and she appeared several times in M*A*S*H, although imdb only lists two credits for her appearances. Also, this episode stars Jeff Maxwell, reprising his famous role as Igor. It turns out that in 2018 Jeff teamed up with superfan Ryan Patrick to host the M*A*S*H Matters podcast, and they take an insightful and entertaining look at the series. Anyway, the PR machine has to protect Kelly's reputation and ensure he really passed away in active combat if you know what I mean.
