Hawkeye is quoting a The Three Stooges routine when he says "Slowly I turn, step by step, inch by inch."
Hawkeye sings a portion of the Spike Jones song "Der Fuehrer's Face"
The title makes reference to the novel 'The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' by Robert Louis Stevenson.
Although Hawkeye Pierce's character is written to be a college educated intelligent doctor, albeit a pacifist, while Hawkeye is in his sleep deprived condition and is rambling to Trapper John and wondering who started the war and why, which is a continual theme throughout the entire 11 seasons, it's hard to believe that as educated as Hawkeye is, despite his pacifistic views, he is actually and genuinely ignorant of the specific, obvious and publicly known reason who started the Korean War and why, which began on 25 June 1950 when North Korea invaded South Korea. South Korea, with the aid of the United States and the United Nations had simply and initially reacted in defense.
