This episode had two drafts - one in which the war is declared over, the other in which a temporary ceasefire is declared. This was because no one was sure whether the show would be picked up for a second season as the ratings had been indifferent. When they learned that the show would return, the second draft was put into production.
Hawkeye mentions living in Vermont while inventing a wife and family. He's discussed his family's "summer home" in Crabapple Cove, Maine on an occasion or two, but going forward he claims it as his only home for the remainder of the series. The Vermont home is never again mentioned.
