Up to Their Old Tricks
Hitchcoc20 April 2015
This will always remain my favorite episode of MASH. For those that have never seen it, I will not do anything to spoil it. Suffice it to say that I was totally taken in by it and I still enjoy seeing it every year or so. It's around April 1 and the children are restless. They begin to play juvenile tricks on one another. Potter becomes concerned because a take- no-prisoners Colonel is coming to camp. He is known as the ultimate butt kicker and for having no sense of humor. He also can hold the future of surgical teams in his hands. The gang gets into a pillow fight after Margaret's tent has been stolen, and who should show up just at that time but this Colonel. He immediately has it in for everyone and has no respect for their actions in the operating room. This episode is intricately crafted and delivers the goods. Love it.

Fooled!

Warning: Spoilers
Potter and his wartime buddy Dan (Pat Hingle) go to elaborate lengths to fool Hawkeye, BJ, Winchester and Margaret big time. The twist at the end would have made M Night proud for sure, with a strong laugh track.

I've watched this episode many times, and I never tire of it. Hard to believe it was first broadcast 40 years ago!

Fav Episode, but not available on Amazon?

One of my favorite episodes. However, when I purchased this season on Amazon Prime, this episode is not available. Why is this the case?

I love being able to see the episode as filmed and Amazon usually allows me to do that, but we can't purchase it. Why?

One of the best and funniest

Warning: Spoilers
Hawkeye, BJ and Charles vs Margaret in the pranking wars . Potter seems turned off by all the practical jokes leading up to April Fools Day but he outmaneuvers the all. In a brilliant move Potter brings in an old buddy who pushes all the buttons on our four main pranksters. Pat Hingle indeed does a fabulous job as a fire breathing colonel out for vengeance. Thankfully it's one time one of Potter's old friend is a genuine good guy .

A few other things to look for a temporary return to Klinger's dress up days .

Charles continues to show different sides to is personality and character and unlike Frank can join in the fun and isn't necessarily always about impressing the higher ups.

The ending also shows what Potter's friend was really like. Too bad he wasn't around more .
