This is another of those LUCY SHOW episode titles where the writers chose to use the big block comedy scene to identify the episode. I guess it makes sense from their perspective - easier to know what the heck they were talking about. But the main plot of this episode is that Lucy and Viv both want to stay home Saturday night and prepare a home cooked meal for their respective dates.
After they agree that both couples will dine out, sneaky Lucy stays behind and hurriedly throws everything together in the dining room, and boy, is she prepared!! She's hidden a bowl full of salad under the lampshade, the champagne is chilling in a rubber boot and she sets the table like she's going for a world-record. This scene is brilliant thanks to Ball's impeccable timing.
This is another instance where Viv moves out --- but here it lasts all of ten seconds so the writers weren't milking that old trope, really. Although this one is memorable to most fans for the finale when Lucy and Viv are up to their necks in coal, I actually like the dining room scene better. The part where the ladies are glued to the basement wall is ok, but they've done better.
Lucy sports the poufy hair in this one and looks more glam. She goes back and forth this season in her look.
