Floated nicely

Pardon the pun right above you, but this was a very good episode that flowed nicely, and was more funny than cheesy, and had many familiar faces. I'll give very brief comments on all 3 segments without trying to bore you, dear reader, but 2 of them were solid, and 1 was more comedic relief. Here goes: the first story starred Will Geer as a cranky, but funny geezer looking to deal with the recent death of his wife, and he was very surprised to find a runaway/stowaway in his cabin, played by someone named Bayn Johnson, whose acting career ended about a month later. I thought they had good chemistry together and were very patient with each other, as this segment was probably the highlight of this episode. The other episode I enjoyed starred both Tom Poston, who's on the trail for any piece of tail he can get, and Anson Williams, who just happened to be old friends of Julie's; quite the coincidence, eh? He actually spurns her many advances for a specific reason, and the scene where she finds out was a very moving one at that; regarding Julie, I think she and the other crew members should act a little more professional and not try getting involved romantically with passengers. The other story, although it was more of a scene or 2, stars Arte Johnson and Pat Morita as painters in charge of painting the captain's cabin, and they kept making mistakes. This was the weakest of all the stories, and even though it wasn't that bad, it just wasn't up to par with the others and seemed slightly out of place.

The Love Boat

Fun Fact: This episode also featured Anson Williams and Pat Morita from "Happy Days". Everyone who starred on the show made an appearance on "The Love Boat" with the exception of Henry Winkler and Ron Howard.

Happy Days for Old Men and Painters

Warning: Spoilers
This episode aired December 24th, 1977. Don't expect anything about Christmas. We already did that. Wow. This is a male heavy episode. Let's just get through it as quickly as possible. We've got Judy Landers episodes ahead (soon, I hope.) Julie falls for a member of the Happy Days cast. Actually, not our first, and not our last. Henry Winkler and Ron Howard are too good for The Love Boat? Thankfully, Anson Williams is not so haughty. Julie invites him to her cabin to look at old snapshots. Wink. There's a reason ol' Anson is resisting Julie. Tom Poston is here too. I always enjoyed him. Here he's a tan swinger in a jump suit with gold chains. He's even shooting finger guns. Meawhile, Arte Johnson and Pat Morita play painters. (Morita was a Happy Days cast member too! I smell an ABC conspiracy.) I like these two. They work well together. They almost make up for the lack of a Loni Anderson or Judy Landers. Almost. Will Geer plays the titular old man. His cruise is thrown upside down by the sudden appearance of a teenage stowaway. Bayn Johnson is okay, I guess, if you can't get Tatum O'Neal. (It looks like she had a short career.) This is our second runaway in five episodes. Are we already repeating ourselves? I kind of like Geer anyway. 'You don't know who Clark Gable is?' he asks. The old man and the teenager do yoga together next to the pool. On Kafka's Love Boat Scale, this episode gets 2 1/2 * out of a possible 4 *.
