The Belmonts return home from a movie to walk in on a robbery. Stanley (Dom DeLuise) calls the police, but finds little help. His lazy brother-in-law Arthur (Wynn Irwin) haphazardly gives Stanley directions in installing a burglar alarm. Stanley next decides to protect the family by getting a dog from the animal shelter that is trained to attack strangers. The passive, mangy mutt named Arnold instantly takes up with Arthur and a bond forms between the two. In the middle of the night the family hears the someone breaking things downstairs. A burglar hits the home again and tells them to stay where they are. Can Arnold come to the rescue?
