Quotes

  • Lois Lane : Smiley says I don't trust or respect you and he doesn't even know why you put up with me.

Clark Kent : Lois, the man's a killer.

Lois Lane : Of course I trust you, and I respect you more than anyone I've ever known. And if I do get angry it's only because I've never opened up to someone so much in my entire life and it hurts when it feels like that trust isn't returned. And you know I put up with you for the same reason you put up with me. It's because I'm completely in love with you.

Clark Kent : And I love you.

[They stare at each other silently for a moment]

Clark Kent : Did we just make up?

Lois Lane : I think so.

    [They kiss]

Lois Lane : Could maybe we do this someplace not so musty, and not owned by a killer?

  • Superman : Smiley had given up on people finding happiness together. I haven't, have you?

    Lois Lane : No.

Superman : But we keep messing up. Why is that?

Lois Lane : Well first of all people mess up. And I think adjusting to the whole idea of marriage, along with everything else we've been going through, is making both of us a little nuts.

    Superman : So?

Lois Lane : So maybe we should just take a little break from the whole idea of marriage, not even say the M word, and just be in love.

Superman : I can do that.

Lois Lane : It's a lot of pressure, this whole forever thing.

Superman : It's not the M word that makes it forever for me, Lois. My love is forever, because... because it just is.

    [They kiss]

  • Lois Lane : There's some files here divided into piles marked 'accepted' and 'rejected' candidates. Candidates for what?

    [looks through them]

Lois Lane : Clark, we're in the rejected pile.

Clark Kent : Lois, don't you think that's probably a good thing?

Lois Lane : Well, I'd like to feel wanted

  • Lois Lane : You know, it's just wonderful being angry at a national treasure.

Superman : Lois, I can't help it. People like me. I help them. You used to like me.

Lois Lane : I still like you I'm just upset. And even though it's your fault I feel like it's mine. Good old Clark, good ol' Superman, crabby old Lois. And even if I could tell someone the issue, which I can't, they'd still think you were the good guy and I'm the bad guy.

  • Superman : I'm sorry, you were saying?

Lois Lane : Nothing. I'm going to be a professional and go to the interview, and internalize my feelings so I get an ulcer the size of Cleveland.

    Superman : Women...Earth women!

  • Lois Lane : What are you doing here?

Clark Kent : Seeing a movie with Jimmy.

Lois Lane : I think it's oddly coincidental that out of all the movies playing in all the movie theaters we would end up at the same one at the same time.

Clark Kent : I think that it shows how we have the same tastes.

Lois Lane : I walked out.

Clark Kent : So did I. Jimmy loved it.

Lois Lane : I walked out because the plot is just warmed over Bambi without the political subtext. You?

Clark Kent : I fell asleep. What difference does it make why I walked out?

Lois Lane : Cause I think it shows how we look at the same thing differently.

Clark Kent : I think we are completely in sync.

Lois Lane : Oh yeah, we're so in sync that when you broke up with me, for my own good, you figured I'd probably know it was for the best because we're so in sync. We're about as in sync as the English in a Japanese horror film.

Clark Kent : Lois, I was wrong and I admitted it. You can't stay mad.

Lois Lane : Oh, yes I can. You can fly, I can stay mad. It's a gift.

  • Superman : Well I'm no expert, but I think if you really care about someone and they make a mistake, 'cause they're only human after all, and they sincerely apologize, I think you forgive.

Lois Lane : A mistake's one thing, but this is a whole attitude. Just because someone says 'I love you' doesn't put them in charge of your whole life.

Superman : True, but saying 'I love you' does mean that I would never hurt you on purpose, and maybe I'll make more mistakes along the way, just as you will, but we'll learn from them and move on.

Lawrence 'Larry' Smiley : Son, you pack a lot of horse sense in them tight britches.

  • Superman : Hi. Where are you off to?

    Lois Lane : The interview.

    Superman : What interview?

    Lois Lane : Didn't I tell you?

Superman : No but since you are hardly speaking to me I guess this is one of those things you hardly spoke to me about.

  • Clark Kent : Lois flying for me is a piece of cake. I've been doing it since high school. What happens if I screw up? Lose a little altitude. But being in a relationship, it's completely new. If I blow this, I lose everything.

Lois Lane : Oh Clark. I'm not actually as good at romance as I look.

    Clark Kent : Really?

Lois Lane : I mean my life's basically been about work. I'm just trying to figure this out like you are.

Clark Kent : So we'll help each other.

Lois Lane : I know I don't always respond appropriately.

Clark Kent : Neither do I.

Lois Lane : And I don't always know how to express how I feel.

Clark Kent : And I get tongue tied sometimes.

Lois Lane : But I do know you broke my heart. And you just have to let me work that out. You can't expect me to just snap out of it.

    Clark Kent : I will... and I don't.

  • Clark Kent : Good morning Chief. Lois.

[Lois gives a wave but doesn't say anything]

Clark Kent : Listen I can come back.

Perry White : No, no, no, no, no, just a minute. I've been meaning to talk to you two. Now I can't help but notice the chill going on between you two. If you need a friendly ear to bend, I'm it. But just don't let whatever it is hurt your work. Okay?

Lois Lane : Chief I think Clark and I are both professional enough to behave, uh, professionally.

Perry White : Good because partners need to know they can count on each other. Trust each other.

  • Perry White : Anyway if you wanted to nose around it would have to be a kind of undercover, sniff it out type thing.

Clark Kent : That's not exactly what I was getting at.

Perry White : You know as a matter of fact I could make arrangements for you two to go on the next retreat as a married couple.

Lois Lane : Oh no, that's just not a good idea.

Clark Kent : Not at this time Chief.

Perry White : No, why? Surely not for personal reasons. I mean cause you both said that nothing would stand in the way of your professionalism.

    Lois Lane : No, no.

[Looks at Clark and he shakes his head no]

Lois Lane : No, no just don't think it's a good idea.

    Clark Kent : No.

Perry White : Oh. Oh, okay, you're sentiments are duly noted. Don't you guys think you should get out of here and pack?

  • Lois Lane : Hey Clark. Do you think you could lift out Michele's handwriting from the others, you know, using your vision gizmo?

Clark Kent : Lois, 'vision gizmo' doesn't sound particularly... cool. You know?

  • Lois Lane : You know I sleep like a baby in Metropolis, what is so relaxing about the stupid mountains?

  • Betty : Superman! Female Hawk you know Superman?

Lois Lane : Oh, well, yeah kind of, we have the same dentist.

  • Clark Kent : You know, I don't think this group therapy stuff is so bad.

Lois Lane : I thought the wild applause was a bit excessive.

  • Jimmy Olsen : Uh, Lois...uh, panic makes a man say strange things sometimes...uh, I was wondering if you could sorta forget what I...

Lois Lane : [reassuringly]  Trust me.
