Corney but good

Lois and Clark in retrospect is a much better show than I remember. When I first saw it I felt it was a bit too corney for my taste as it was the 90s and we were moving (slowly) away from 'campy' superheroes to more dramatic ones, specially with movies like the first Batman move in 89. However, what makes this show work is the very well thought out plot lines. Taking a cue from the "Adventures of Superman, they writers realized the plots would be better if Lois and Clark had to solve a mystery to find the badguys rather than have Superman constantly 'physically challeneged'. Them having to do 'detective work' makes the show much better.

This episode features a great villain duo of Jonathan Frakes and his wife Genie Francis, and they use their brains to put Superman and Lois in jeopardy. It is a great example of using clever ideas and detective work to solve the problem at hand. I love this episode more now because it also keeps the love story going without it being too overbearing like so many shows today do. Plot first, love in the background and enough action to remind you Superman is in the show.

Season 3 marks a turn to more 'campy' villians that before but it is still an excellent show and worthy of watching.
