- TriviaWhen Logan says to the fence, "I had a partner once. He was a great stick-man" he's referring to Lenny Briscoe, his partner on Law & Order (1990) from 1990-1995. Jerry Orbach, who played Lenny Briscoe for 13 years, died in 2004, right before this episode aired. His death was written into the series and several characters, including Mike Logan, were shown reacting to his passing.
- GoofsLogan finds a couple of methadone dosage units at the shooting gallery, and later when they arrest Maya at the methadone clinic the nurse gives her brother his methadone and just lets him walk off with it. When someone is being treated at a methadone clinic they are not allowed to take their medication with them, the methadone has to be administered on site, the nurse dispensing the methadone is required by law to ensure that the patient drinks and swallows all of it before allowing them to leave. This is to ensure that the patient is complying with their prescribed regiment and is not abusing or diverting their methadone.
- Quotes
Detective Carolyn Barek: [to Johnny] Detective Logan knows about that kind of hate, see his mother used to make him buy booze for her.
[to Logan]
Detective Carolyn Barek: Tell him about it, he needs to know.
Detective Mike Logan: Well, after the first drink it was all hugs and kisses, a few drinks later, she'd grab whatever she could find and start beating me with it. Then when she got tired of holding whatever she was hitting me with, she'd use her fists. And then the next day, it would start all over again.
- ConnectionsReferenced in Law & Order: Criminal Intent: In the Wee Small Hours: Part 2 (2005)
Of course, D'Onofrio and Eames will always be the top choice of me and probably most viewers, but this "second team" isn't bad. My first impression of "Barek" is that she's very low-key, more than I expected knowing the kind of roles Sciorra has played on film.
The crime story involves a sick mother-son duo who are both hooked big-time on drugs. To support their ever-growing habit, the son resorts to sticking up jewelry stores and murdering people in the process. With the dramatic increase in drug usage, his rage is increasing. The story also involves other people, of course, and Logan and Barek investigate and interrogate all of them to try to solve this case.
Logan is under pressure to impress his new boss (Capt. Deakins) so he doesn't get sent back to Staten Island. He wants to be a regular with this Major Crimes Unit. He and his new partner are also learning about each other.
In addition to seeing a new face, the story was an intense one and should definitely keep your interest.
