The Last Detective - a measured detective drama

Warning: Spoilers
Dangerous and the Lonely Hearts...DI Aspinall turns out to be a client of a dating agency, and he's not too happy about it when DC Davies (Peter Davison, who was excellent in A Very Peculiar Practice) finds out when one of the ladies from the agency is found murdered.

It's telling that some of Davies' colleagues think the black professional boxer who was a friend of the victim, and who tried to commit suicide, was a prime suspect because of his race and the race of the victim (White European - maybe Eastern European).

One of the subplots is the frustration DC Davies feels at the indifference of his estranged wife Julie (Emma Amos). The cute St Bernard, who is owned by Davies and Julie, steals the show!!

A bit of history...this episode was from 2004, and I noticed on the menu chalkboard in the pub where Davies and Aspinall were sharing a pint: Filled rolls 1 pound, Sandwiches 2 pounds, Hot pies 1 pound, Crisps 75 p, Soup of the day and roll 1.75 pounds.

Things have changed since then.
