One of My Favorite Episodes of the Series
adamunc30 March 2010
I'm going to have to disagree with the other reviewer and say this is one of my favorite episodes of the series. It's a stand-alone, but sometimes it's fun to just do a one-off episode. Danny finds a historic artifact from the Jubilee Hotel which used to stand where the Montecito is today. He fantasizes that he and the gang are taking over a casino in 1962, complete with a stellar mid-century production design that's the equal of any "Mad Men" visuals. We also get a nifty plot that imagines what these characters' lot in life may have been had they actually lived in that era. There's still the silly fun, such as when a revenue-generating scheme results in an idea for doing boob jobs at the hotel. But the episode doesn't ignore the racial divides of the time, either, as Mike suffers a discriminatory episode that Ed deals with in typical Ed fashion. Vanessa Marcil (Sam) as a '60s call girl is particularly hot.

Reviewer adamunc is completely wrong

Reviewer adamunc mentions that this is a standalone episode. He is incorrect and not adept at spotting subtleties. At the end end of the episode when they revert back to modern times. Ed Deline does not follow them through the door to the casino and it is mentioned that he quit in the previous episode. So even this episode is primarily a dream, it is in fact a continuation from the previous episode. Reviewer adamunc probably was lighting a joint when this happened.

Warning: Spoilers
I really like this show. Really. I love science fiction, and really enjoy it when my favorite characters break their bonds and go gallivanting off in another era. IN SCIENCE FICTION. This episode begins with Danny purchasing a souvenir of a long-gone casino, leading to a stilted conversation with Mike about what it would have been like to be in Vegas in the sixties. Then they do it. The special one-off title sequence is interesting, but the rest of this episode adds new depth to my definition of horrid. I watched this thing because I was hoping it would shed new light on a character, or further the plot, or SOMETHING. It didn't. If, like me, you're watching the show on DVD, you can safely skip this one without missing a thing. Well, watch it up through the title sequence, then skip on ahead. It's really that horrible.
