    Burn rubber!!

Michael and K. I. T. T enter the Alternative 2000, a cross country race for cars that run on alternative fuel. They are there to find a saboteur, not to win, but find themselves having to rescue nosy reporter Liberty Cox in each lap.

A serviceable episode that has plenty of car action on the race track, an attempted assassination and an interesting character in Robin Dearden who is a suspected of causing the sabotage.

    Cars of the future

Decent storyline, but man did they go a little overboard with Liberty Cox and the moonshine twins. The car chase scenes worked well and the acting wasn't too bad.

Give Me Liberty... or Give Me Death

Knight Rider stays ahead of the time. There is sabotage on a car race running on alternative fuels and Michael enters as a racer to investigate.

A cable television channel is covering the races and it ends up being a bit too exciting as cars career off the road or explode.

Michael is pursued by a nosy reporter Liberty Cox. When an Arab racer is arrested because his oil producing country has more to gain if this race fails, Michael finds it all a little bit too convenient.

A fun episode, less cheesy than usual and nice to see someone was promoting green car technology all those years ago.

    • Trivia
An orange Dodge Charger is a participant in the race. The car is driven by a pair of relatives, one with blonde hair, and one with dark hair. The pair have a Dixie flag on their uniforms. Also, their vehicle is powered by moonshine. This seems like a reference to the series The Dukes of Hazzard (1979), where a pair of cousins drive an orange Dodge Charger with a confederate flag painted on the roof, and have a family history of driving moonshine around a dry county. The characters' surnames are likewise royal titles (Duke/Prince). The race announcer refers to the car as the "number one" car; the General Lee had an "01" painted on its side.
    • Goofs
In the scene right after the yellow solar-powered Shelby car is hit by the sniper, you can see a dinged area of missing paint on the fender above the blown tire, indicating that the car was hit there. Yet in the subsequent shots of the car when Michael and K.I.T.T. rescue it and the lady driver from the edge of the cliff, the fender paint is fine.

Michael Knight: Em, listen, when you finish up work tonight, how about you and I going out for a little dinner?

Bonnie Barstow: I'd love to Michael, but I'm spending the night with Kitt.

Michael Knight: Oh well, you two have a real good time.

Bonnie Barstow: [sits down] First I have to recharge his components, then I have to convert the engine to run on liquid hydrogine, then I have to flush his systems... and adjust his timing.

Michael Knight: Recharge his components? Flush his system? Kitt, don't you dare take advantage of her tonight.

      K.I.T.T.: I won't.

Bonnie Barstow: Would you get out of here, you yo-yo!

      [Michael leaves]

Bonnie Barstow: Kitt, I hope you're not picking up his warped sense of humor.

Bonnie Barstow: I'm trying my best not to.
