Three's a crowd

Sorry, I had to use that old cliché.

In the third episode of Cowboy Bebop, we meet the woman who will become the third member of the bounty hunting crew: Faye Valentine.

She's got a mysterious past, immense debts, and is wanted for 6 millions woolongs. She is so deep in debt, a casino owner forces her to work the blackjack tables and pull off an illegal exchange involving a chip that has, well, a very valuable (micro)chip inside it.

Although the whole setup that leads Faye to getting captured by Spike and Jet is a little far fetched in how it unfolds, it's still very entertaining, very funny, and it provides a great introduction to Faye as a character, whose backstory becomes a major part of the story's plot.

Faye Valentine and Murphy's Law

After Ein's more light-hearted and whimsical introduction episode, Faye's really brings the house down! In this episode we get the first glimpses of Faye's disastrous past, where it seems like everything that could go wrong did go wrong in her eventual accumulation of crippling debt. Her "notoriety" draws the attention of a casino owner, who proposes her participation in a scheme to acquire a single mysterious poker chip in exchange for the alleviation of her debts. The man on the casino floor from whom she is to collect the chip, however, bears a striking resemblance to our lead man Spike, who happens to be trying his luck at the very same Mars casino with Jet. Profound misunderstandings and hijinks ensue, and it's a genuine delight to watch if you're able to grasp the situation for what it is. Later on Jet's past as an ISSP Special Forces operative is also subtly alluded to through the ever-slick dialogue. As the episode reaches its climax and the stakes mount, we see the most stylish and fluidly-animated scene of the show thus far. And of course the episode is wittily capped off with our main duo (now trio with Ein) once again empty-handed. This episode was a wonderfully whacky introduction to our elusive "Romani", full of spunk, character, and high-octane action!

This episode makes zero sense...No less than that. It makes negative sense.

Warning: Spoilers
So my friends are hating on me for never seeing this show. So I am giving it a shot. The first 2 episodes were all right but what the heck was this? What the hell is going on.

With the way the casino trying to set up the main character Spike, one would falsely assume they have a history together. Never have I had so many questions.... Why the heck would the casino set up Spike when they do not know him. How did spike get that chip? How did the casino know that he would save it for last. How did he save it for last if it looks like a normal chip? How did the casino give out that chip in the first place...and on the same day.

It all makes for no forking sense!
