The Sear of the Sands is an episode, that I wasn't crazy about when it first went out, I thought the show had lost some of its edge, but having re-watched a few times, I'm now of the opinion that it's a very, very good one. It's a wonderful mix of amusing, macabre and of course far fetched, but what I'm struck by is just how clever the writing is, the crime, solution, all that business with the message in the bottle etc, is just so well thought out, so incredibly imaginative. It's episodes such as this that make me miss the show so much, the mix of ridiculous and humorous is just great. As always incredibly well acted, Lorelei King as always is a joy to watch, Gary Cady and Catherine Cusack are great also. It's a gorgeous looking episode, very well produced, a real mix, but it all hangs together so well.
An excellent mystery. 8/10
