Joey gets an assistant in this fun episode of the show.

I think the idea of Joey getting an assistant proved ultimately to be a wasted opportunity for the show in general, as in Richard Ruccolo's Glen not only did they have a perfect candidate to fill the void of 'Joey's friend' which was much needed, but he also provided Gina with stories. Ruccolo would have been a fine regular addition to the cast. Sadly though he only appears here and one other episode.

The B story involving Alex and Michael is fine in itself, with a nice guest turn from Simon Helberg, though quite why Joey had to appear in it (other than that the show's called 'Joey') is beyond me. You can have too much of a good thing, and Joey being in every scene of every episode was a good example of that.

The main story is great, and carries the episode.

Joey and the Assistant (#1.15)

Warning: Spoilers
Joey needs a personal assistant and finds one that is absolutely perfect. But he meets Gina and after that his performance starts lacking. Although they still decide to try both to work it out and divide him for different times. Michael and his friend Seth make an invention and Seth wants to keep it all to himself. Alex helps Michael as a layer in this case and finds a way to make Seth share it.

The assistant story was alright. It had a few fun moments and a good actor.

I liked the story about the nerd court more. Am always happy to see Simon Helberg. He is a perfect nerd.
