A workmanlike update, in 2000, on the old Cold War attitudes

Warning: Spoilers
A topical episode at the time, shortly after the Russian submarine K-141 "Kursk" blew itself up in the Barents Sea in the same year. This is a nice mix of courtroom, Senate hearing and beneath-the-waves action. Plus, Renee Petersen gets to explain the word "propinquity".

A nice review of the "women serving on submarines" debate along with the need to test technology before relying on the "our country's tech is better than yours" mantra. Congresswoman Bobbi Latham neatly "shanghais" Mac into a trip on a submarine, as she is "a fair-minded officer" - calling the bluff of the commander of Submarine Services. Mac's Russian skills come into play.

As a side-bar, it was nice to see the characters of Mic Brumby and Rene Petersen given the space to discuss their characters' obvious concerns when Harm and Mac head off on a mission together. The actor and actress involved must have relished the extra lines and screen time.

The ending is heart-warming and entirely in character.
