The ship used to portray the USS Montana is not consistent, some shots show a ship with the hull number 49, others show 57.
While Harm and Mac investigate aboard the ship at sea, during two different interviews with two different enlisted men, the two sailors wear their ball caps while sitting at a table inside the wardroom. In the real world of the Navy, the sailors would or should know not to wear their covers while inside the wardroom, and, if they did so, by carelessness or otherwise, any officer present would have promptly reminded them to uncover. Wearing a cover inside a wardroom is a major mark of disrespect.
On the TV that is discussing the pending executions its reads "Kossovo" instead of "KOSOVO".
P.O. Tiner is wearing a good conduct ribbon. This can only be awarded after each 4 successive years of good conduct. As this indicates he has been in for at least 4 years he should also have a hash mark on his lower left sleeve indicating at least 4 years of service.
The Montana goes to General Quarters during the live-fire exercise, which is procedure, but the announcement over the PA just states "General Quarters, all hands man your battle stations". There is always a reason stated for going to General Quarters, especially when it is a drill, and the route to take to get to battle stations depending on location in the ship is given. In this instance the correct announcement would be "General Quarters, General Quarters. All hands man your battle stations. The route of travel is forward and up to starboard, down and aft to port. The reason for General Quarters is a live-fire exercise, this is a drill. Repeat this is a drill".
There is no USS Montana. The hats identify the ship as CGN-42. There is no 42. The last CGN (Guided missile cruiser, nuclear), 41, was the Arkansas. She was decommissioned in 1998 and recycled (scrapped).
Bud fails to point out to his brother that if he finishes his tour of enlistment as a sailor in the Navy, the GI Bill would then give him a full scholarship to a four-year college where he could pursue studies relating to his interest in being an artist.
Petty Officer Lopez's is a Gunner's Mate, she is trained to operate and maintain a warship's guided missile, gun and turret weapons stations. Yet she is not wearing the rating insignia of a gunner's mate (two crossed cannons). She is wearing the rating insignia of a Fire Controlman, their job involves maintaining the electronic and hydraulic components of a warship's weapons control systems, but they do not man fire control stations like gunner's mates do. They are also responsible for performing maintenance on the Aegis Combat System, which is the integrated electronic weapons control system used on Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruisers and Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyers.
Seaman Hendrix and Seaman Olin are both wearing the rating insignia of a Gunner's Mate, however in the US Navy a sailor is not granted a rating until they reach paygrade E-4 (Petty Officer Third Class). Sailors at paygrades E-1, E-2 and E-3 are considered to be apprentices and in training for their rating, these ranks are separated into five different occupational fields (airman, constructionman, fireman, hospitalman, or seaman). At these ranks occupation is denoted by the color of their rank stripes: (green for airman, blue for constructionman, red for fireman & white for hospitalman and seaman). For example an E-1 airman would be an Airman Recruit and would have one green stripe, an E-2 constructionman would be a Constructionman Apprentice and would have two blue stripes, a E-3 fireman would be a Fireman and have three red stripes.
