1x7: Charlie got Molested
FriedToast0219 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The finale of the season 1 is solid but prolly one of my least favorite finales. The theme of season 1 of tackling controversial topics is still very much in this episode and prolly one of the more controversial episodes.

Again I feel like the execution of this episode could have been better which seems to be very consistent in this season. The main plot is okay and the ending I feel is kind of a cop out and not one of my favorite endings. I will say there is still quite a lot to like in this episode. I will say one thing that makes me laugh every time is the little B plot of Mac wondering why he wasn't good enough to get molested and him telling Dee and Dennis and their reaction really shows how messed up Macs mind is. Also the scene of Mac at the coaches house is also hilarious. The main stuff with Charlie is okay but has some great introductions to some of my favorite side characters like Uncle Jack, the mcPoyles and Charlies mom. Holy smokes the portrayal of Uncle jack played by Andrew Friedman is amazing and just gets better and better with every appearance and same with Jimmi Simpson as Ryan McPoyle is unreal. There's a lot of potential with all these side characters and the plot could have worked better if it was executed better. Sadly there isn't to many great moments besides a couple of iconic moments like with Mac. The intervention scene though is great and even though he may have not been molested by coach, Uncle jack in every appearance looks more and more guilty. It's a solid episode and having all the side characters does help it, but I think it would have been better if they used the The Gang finds a Dead a body as the finale. Solid episode, but it could have been better right in the middle of the pack for season 1 episodes, not the worst not the best.

Introduction of McPoyle's Uncle Jack

Warning: Spoilers
This one's more in the middle of the pack for me in regards to Season 1 episodes. The introduction of the McPolyle brothers is important, they're a hoot every time they show, but overall this episode is fairly average.

The topic of molestation is a hard thing to take on in comedy and while this episode doesn't fail it doesn't really succeed fully either. The scene with Uncle Jack is pretty humorous and Mac's fixation with why he wasn't chosen is also very darkly funny but some of the scenes feel almost sad to me. Definitely not a bad episode but it could have been better.

Hilarious Scheme

Warning: Spoilers
This review contains spoilers.

The first season finale of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is entitled "Charlie Got Molested". The season finale has an old grade school gym teacher being revealed as a molester. The Gang begins an investigation while Mac is livid he was not molested.

This season finale has funny moments with each of the characters. There are highlights across each of the characters as they try to solve the mystery behind the gym teacher.

I would recommend "Charlie Got Molested".

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season One

The first season for It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is solid. This season is a breath of fresh air in the situational comedy television series space. The writing for the first season is solid and establishes the characters of Paddy's Pub well. All of these characters feel fleshed out and dynamic. The writing of this first season is a refreshing antidote to other situational comedy television series.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is the antidote to other situational comedies. The series has the entire main cast with the exception of Kaitlin Olson's character portraying narcissistic characters. These characters frequently undermine each other and cause pain to one another. These personality traits make the series incredibly entertaining to watch and make for ridiculous moments in the series. I was thoroughly entertained by the entire season.

I would recommend the first season of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia".

Grade: B.

Season 1: An amusing sitcom that benefits from a rather fresh feel to it
bob the moo19 October 2009
I got hold of season 1 of this show on the basis of a good handful of reviews gushing over it and comparing it to Arrested Development and 30 Rock and suggesting fans of those would love it. I tried not to take this too seriously but it did sway me enough to check it out. What I found was that, if it does live up to the hype, it doesn't happen right away in the first season. The short run of episodes focuses on the group of four friends who run Paddy's Bar in Philadelphia. The best way to describe them would be to take the "shockingly tactless" aspect of Sarah Silverman's comedy, dilute it and inject it into the morality centres of these four characters.

Covering abortion, death, sexual abuse, underage drinking and other such subjects, the characters mainly spend their time on the wrong side of the line that the vast majority of us would morally draw on this issues. The result is not as shockingly "oh my god she did what" as with Silverman and, as a result the show is not as funny but does benefit from being much more accessible as a "proper" sitcom with characters in it. The first season is very short and typically for American television, each episode is barely 20 minutes long thanks to the commercials, but it still delivers several laughs in each episode. Outside of these it managed to give me a sense of being amused even if I was not laugh because it has a fresh, almost improvised, feel to the comedy that worked for me. It didn't feel like the rapid fire, tightly scripted comedy of 30 Rock or Daily Show (both of which I love) but it feels a bit more relaxed and natural.

The cast are pretty good with the material and make this natural feel work. Day, Olson, Howerton and McElhenney all work well together and deliver the lines well even if ultimately the dialogue and funny moments tend to include them rather than be directly related to their performances (if you see what I mean). Overall the first season of this show is amusing with cleverly subversive laughs and plots. I don't think it is amazing but I certainly enjoyed it enough to come back for the second season to see if the potential can be developed into a consistently funny show.

I think I finally found It

Before I start watching it, I heard a lot that this is a great comedy and a lot of my friends telling me that this is the best comedy show ever so I just said to myself let me give it a chance and I didn't regret .. I just love the show a lot I love the direction I love the comedy, I love the way of narrative, and every episode and how it's different and how it's even in only 20 minutes it's full of events and you feel like you watched a whole story every single episode .. and that's the best about this show . And the twists the this stuff that happened suddenly is just hilarious and so crazy and written in a way that makes the comedy really comedy and it's not sitcom or something like friends or the office I can't say that.. but it's so simple and the same time it's so hilarious and great and smooth to watch, I fall in love with the first season and I hope I will continue in that path, I really enjoyed these seven episodes 8.5/10.

Season One

The seven-episode long first season of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is an admirable low-budget production and a well-written show all-around. What makes it truly impressive is that it manages to become the best and funniest sitcom currently on television in the space of just its first episode "The Gang Gets Racist". Also standing out as a piece of brilliant comic writing is "Gun Fever", guest-starring Michael Rosenbaum. I have to say I found the season finale to be quite funny but hardly as good as many claim

Season average based on ratings for all episodes:
