Lucy didn't want Ricky to make a fuss about her birthday and he doesn't, she's not happy. He did make plans for her but she doesn't know it. Ethel even keeps her surprise party a secret, for once. Good for her. Poor Lucy thinks no one remembers but it all pays off seeing her reaction at the club. The best part is Ricky singing I Love Lucy theme with words.

Warning: Spoilers
The first half inspired The Anniversary episode of Fawlty Towers and the second half inspired the final scene of Nights of Cabiria. Genius writing and genius performance by Lucy.

Warning: Spoilers
Lucy didn't have the good grace to be embarrassed at the end, when after her ranting and raving at the Tropicana, Ricky springs her surprise birthday on her.

Ethel's Birthday was funnier !

Warning: Spoilers
I want to like this episode but it feels a little off . The scene in the park with the misfits was more sad than funny. Lucy isn't in the sad circumstances these people are . I also think it's a stretch to play it like anyone forgot her birthday. That can happen I just don't particularly believe it here. Ricky doesn't even forget their anniversary much less her birthday.

I also think it's kind of odd Mrs . Trumble wasn't invited. She's good enough to babysit after all.
