The Last Gamble

In the first series of Hustle. The spectre of the Redford/Newman hit film The Sting has always loomed large.

The finale recreates the Wire scam from that movie. The mark is Anthony Reeves. He has just got a controversial employment pay off, he is an arrogant snob who likes horse racing and hookers.

Danny Blue is the inside man who convinces Reeves that his people can delay the horse racing results going to the bookmakers. Just long enough for the Reeves to place a bet after the race has run.

The Hustle team set up a private bookmaker but as they try to reel in Reeves to make that one big bet. They are unaware that a former mark who they conned to buy the London Eye is out for revenge.

It was a good homage to the Sting. It was also nice to have a former victim show up from an earlier episode. It means the Hustle team have to think on their feet.

The Hustle team must have been confident of a second series. They tell the audience that they are going away for a break but will return.
