Kathryn Erbe Is Superb
JohnLeeT27 March 2013
This outstanding series presents Kathryn Erbe in the role of a lifetime as a dying AIDS victim suspected of murdering the man who infected her with the deadly disease. Watching her perform in this piece is simply stunning and she will capture your heart with her characterization of the tragic Rita Hale. I saw this episode when first broadcast and never forgot it. It's power and beauty stayed with me until I again encountered Ms. Erbe as Detective Alex Eames on Law and Order:Criminal Intent. There too, she would more than hold her own and oft times surpass her co-star in creating one of the most memorable characters to ever appear on network television. When I saw her as Eames, I remembered Rita Hale and re-viewed her incredible work in that part. That she was not honored for her performance by the Emmys is outrageous but that she changed hearts and minds about AIDS victims during a dark time in the history of that disease is a far more important credit to her. Kathryn Erbe is an underrated actor who deserves parts in which she can show her art come to life as it did in Homicide. There is no doubt of her superb skill as an actor and the humanity of the person that shines through these kind of performances.
