The final results of Furillo's (the always terrific Daniel J. Travanti) corruption commission report single out Chief Daniels (Jon Cyper in peak slimy form) for blame. Daniels retaliates by making an example of rundown bad nightshift cop Baurer (an excellent and heartbreaking portrayal by Francis X. McCarthy), who's involved in the shooting of a kid with no previous criminal record. The mentally disturbed Alan Bradford (a hilarious turn by Martin Ferrero) gets arrested for disturbing the peace while dressed as Rambo.
The storyline concerning Bradford provides some good laughs, but as par for the course with this show takes a tough near tragic turn towards the end. Bauer's downfall is truly sad to behold and naturally doesn't pan out well for Bauer, who ultimately winds up committing suicide. Moreover, it's chilling to see Furillo on the receiving end of Daniels' wrath: Furillo gets a painful lesson on the danger of making a foe out of someone in a position of power. On the positive side, Hunter (an amusing James Sikking) meets a lady named Prunella (the delightful Elizabeth Huddle Nyborg) who's into weapons. Judith Hansen also makes a stand-out contribution as the no-nonsense Celeste Patterson, who's interviewed by Buntz (a fine Dennis Franz) for a position as a khaki officer.
