- TriviaAt the beginning of this episode, and continuing for much of Season 9, the real-life Iolani Palace in Honolulu, which had served as the setting for the fictional Five-O police unit, was undergoing extensive renovations for the American Bicentennial. This episode shows the exterior of the building heavily cabled and roped-off, and the television crew could therefore no longer use the building for interior or exterior filming. Instead, a nearby structure known as the Territorial Building (which in real life also housed Hawaiian government offices) was shown to be the temporary location of Five-O headquarters. By coincidence, the CBS lease on the buildings at Fort Ruger where the series had had its sound stages had also expired, and so the production of the series was actually moved to the Territorial Building. Toward the latter part of the 1976-77 season, the location of the Five-O offices was once again depicted as being in the Iolani Palace.
- GoofsThe deadly nerve agent flies into Hawaii on a military transport with enough security to guard a US President and handled with the utmost care and caution befitting something like deadly nerve gas. At the end, McGarrett flies home with the deadly vials on a commercial flight with nothing more than himself, Danno and Chin to guard it; the vials resting carelessly on the armrest of McGarett's seat.

A change in locale helps to overcome some of this episode's plot holes.
At the start of many of the seasons of "Hawaii Five-O", there was a double episode--and this is Season 9's double--yet another one involving the evil Wo Fat.
This episode starts in a very unusual way--McGarrett jumps from a Chinese junk and drifts in the current. Eventually, he's picked up by some nice folks who take him to shore. Now here is where it gets odd--McGarrett has been floating in the water in Hong Kong and he has no idea who he is or how he got there! Abruptly, the scene changes to several days before as McGarrett is in Hawaii. He's got an unusual task to do--protect some super-germ that is being used by the university for research. It's so dangerous that McGarrett puts in all sorts of safety measures to ensure the germ doesn't fall into enemy hands. However, Wo Fat had arrived on the island and you know he'll make every effort to get the super-germs. However, what would he do with them if he gets them? Well, see this episode to find this out as well as how McGarrett got into the water in Hong Kong.
There are quite a few holes in the plot in this show. If the plan Wo Fat has is so good to steal the germs, why is he an integral part--playing a professor from Hong Kong?! Considering he is the most dangerous and hated man Five-O ever dealt with, having Mr. Fat being so public makes no sense. And, after McGarrett is brainwashed and is to be killed, why didn't the Fat just put a bullet into his head?! And why is this HUGE plot unraveled and solved so quickly at the end of the show? All these and many more problems can be found in this one if you look for them. BUT, the show also features a nice trip to Hong Kong and a nice episode for McGarrett. In many prior shows, he mostly stood behind his desk or only got involved in a few scenes--here, he is clearly the star--and a tiny bit of an action hero. Overall, it's quite enjoyable and worth seeing.
