To Catch a Neighbor (#2.24)

Warning: Spoilers
The police comes to their door because their new neighbors are potential jewelry thieves. They ask for permission to work from their home. Then the neighbors invite them to dinner and they go wired up to have police listen to the conversations in the house. At some point thee is a shooting and the young policeman gets shot.

A great episode. Lots of funny moments. Especially love the ones with Sophia. Like when she opens the door or makes fun of the police guy because she thinks he can't hear.

The guest stars are also awesome. Was fun to see George Clooney so early in his career. And they even make fun of him being so young then! Joseph Campanella was a very handsome man in this episode and did great acting on his part.

Another great Bea episode.

Warning: Spoilers
While Blanche certainly could have made a play for cop Joseph Campanella in this episode (he certainly is a handsome fellow!), she allows him to pursue Dorothy in this episode where the girls find out that their neighbors are actually jewelry smugglers and in the midst of preparing a major heist. There's a lot of jokes at Rose's expense as after the neighbor's dining room is bugged they overhear one of them talking about that nitwit in the red dress. A young George Clooney is a bundle of determined innocence as Campanella's freshman partner who becomes close to Blanche in a surrogate mother sort of way. Estelle Getty gets a good bulk of the laughs as she pointedly makes fun of Campanella while he listens in on earphones. But the chemistry between Arthur and Campanella is a love/hate relationship that has Bea declaring her annoyance with him at one moment, then bluntly expressing her desire for him the moment he leaves the room. Barbara Turbuck, who plays Mrs. MacDowall, is completely unrecognizable from her role as Jax's mother on "General Hospital", a role she played for over a decade. This plot was basically repeated as the Chevy Chase/Dianne Wiest movie "Cops & Robbersons".

Series two's best episode?
Sleepin_Dragon23 April 2023
The Girls entertain their new neighbours, after an enjoyable, successful evening, two Detectives arrive, and explain that their new neighbours are criminals, The Detectives ask to stay over, to catch their criminals.

A contender for best episode of series two, it's a joy fest from start to finish, and I don't just mean George Clooney's ridiculously handsome face either. Incredibly original, it's another shining example of the show's extensive variety.

Multiple memorable, funny moments, Sophia tormenting Al at the table, Blanche flirting, Rose tongue tied, Dorothy hitting Rose with the magazine, it is so very funny.

Absolutely loved Joseph Cmpanella's presence here, what a lovely, charming actor, he made for a perfect love interest.

10/10.

Warning: Spoilers
"To Catch a Neighbor" is a hilarious and epic episode that will have you laughing out loud! I enjoyed seeing a young George Clooney and the always charming Joseph Campanella as they played police officer partners who camped out at the girl's house for a few days to investigate their neighbor's illegal activities. Don't miss this episode!
