Everybody deserves a neighbor like Freida Claxton...
mark.waltz14 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
At least to make Halloween masks out of their faces. She gives nice old ladies like Sophia a bad name. Nan Martin is hysterical as the nasty Mrs. Claxton (who probably drove Mr. Claxton to suicide) who is the epitome of a misanthrope. She easily could have been named Miss Ann Thrope with her nasty disposition, but in a way is relatable with her cranky demeanor. Martin has the most delightful voice and way with pronunciation. Then there's the delightfully named mortician and the equally funny veteran actress Amzie Strickland who really has a great way with a kick, just like Martin did kicking the bucket. Among my "Golden Girls" afficianados, this is one of the favorite episodes. Martin was so well liked that she was brought back later on as a different character, this time much more likable.

Nan Martin Steals the Show as the Vile Mrs. Frieda Claxton!
dhainline16 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Frieda Claxton is the 83-year-old neighbor from hell who hates all people and the oak tree that is on her property. Everyone in the neighborhood including the Golden Girls loves the one-hundred year old oak but Frieda wants to chop it down and have the city pour concrete. Dorothy quips Frieda is so hated the neighborhood kids wore Frieda Claxton masks for Halloween. This old lady is merciless with her insults to the girls and her backlashes are quite funny! It surprises Dorothy and the others that Mrs. Claxton wants to save the tree, but the old lady says she only told Rose that when Rose visited her with prune danishes. At the meeting, Mrs. Claxton is at it again and Rose tells her to drop dead and she accommodates Rose! I love Amzie Strickland as the mourner at the funeral who thinks Mrs. Claxton is her best friend and the kick Amzie delivers to the wood coffin is the coolest thing ever!

A classic, hilarious episode.

Rose does her best to save a two hundred year old tree in The Neighborhood, but there is one detractor, Frieda Claxton.

What an absolute classic episode this is, an absolute belter, there is no funnier subject matter than death, and when it concerns someone unpleasant, it can have an extra bit of zip.

There are endless funny moments, the funeral parlour, the service, the ashes, the courtroom ordeal, they absolutely nailed this episode, this is undoubtedly in my top ten of all time.

Mr. Pfeiffer was one funny character, such a funny idea, a non silent p, but it was so funny.

Nan Martin was only in her fifties play the part of Frieda, you'd have thought she was much older.

9/10.

It's a Miserable Life (#2.4)

Warning: Spoilers
The girls want to save a giant oak tree but the woman whose property it is on doesn't care what happens to it, she hates both people and trees. At court Rose tells her to drop dead and she indeed does. Sophia kind of feels bad for her not having any close people and they decide to organize her funeral.

I love how once again they make Rose "kill" somebody, she just can't stop!.

I also liked the scene where the woman comes to a wrong funeral, for a moment they make you think it is one of those "oh you didn't know how great she was moments" but soon enough you are back to seeing her in a bad way. And Nan Martin who played Frida Claxton was great in her role.
