In a Bed of Rose's (#1.15)
ComedyFan20109 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Rose is dating a man and brings him to thee house. In the morning Sophia finds him in Rose's bed dead. Rose is very concerned about it because her husband died in her bed as well. She wants to notify his sister but it turns out that it is actually his wife. Rose goes to tell her and in return the woman comes to Rose to reassure her that he didn't die because of her.

A pretty clever idea with a lot of little twists and enjoyably funny. It is in a way funny that right after the episode of Dorothy's affair Rose had one as well without knowing it. And the whole thing about her killing men was hilarious. I agree with her, the thing she told her friends at the end was funny!

Rose sure gets around

For someone who hasn't had sex in 15 years Rose sure seems to be making up for lost time. Or maybe living with trampy Blanche has rubbed off on her. A few episodes ago she met Arnie and was wary of sleeping with him because it's been so long since her husband Charlie. But she overcame her fears and slept with him on a cruise and all was well. It appeared that she was dating him until this episode.

She meets this guy Al and brings him home to sleep with him but unfortunately he croaks in her bed. Rose is devastated because that's how her husband Charlie checked out too and she feels she's responsible for they're deaths and is afraid to sleep with anyone ever again.

But she winds up back with Arnie after A'sl death and when he's still living after they jump in bed, she's thrilled that she's not a sex killer. But Rose doesn't seem the type of character who dates one guy and takes another one home to sleep with. Blanche and even Dorothy would do that. Heck, even Sophia, but it doesn't seem in Rose's character to do this and she actually comes off more trampy than Blanche in this one. Good episode even though Rose is now a slut like Blanche.

The kiss of Death.

'Beware of zero calorie foods,' amen to that.

Rose has been seeing Al for a month, and after a night of passion, Sophia finds him in the morning, dead.

Another writing success, each episode offers something different, and manages to focus on a different girl, this time Rose. This was really funny, one of series one's best.

Rose's revelation about what she wants to do in future was a scream, one of many funny scenes, her description about that dead man and the combine harvester was hilarious also.

Once again, there's the usual mix of humour and drama, Rose's scenes with the deceased's wife were funny, but really touching too.

That final scene was sheer class, seriously funny, Rose so often the butt of the joke, gets one over on the others.

Class, 8/10.

A repeat of the previous episode is the much better of the two.

Warning: Spoilers
Rose finds out that a one night stand can be dangerous, and for the second time in her life, she makes love with a man who dies supposedly as a result of that. Even Blanche is perplexed by how Rose can do this, and the grieving Rose decides to contact the man's sister to tell her what happened. When she calls, however, it is not Al's sister, but his wife. Rose shows up at their gorgeous home, and instantly Lucille (the fantastic Priscilla Morrill) knows that Rose is her husband's latest fling. In a most hysterical way, Lucille explains how her husband (Richard Roat) started cheating on her on their honeymoon, even making their son's rabbits look on him in amazement. With her lemon puckered voice, Morrill steals every moment she is on screen, showing a complicated woman with a ton of vulnerability, bitter but in grief.

For a moment with Morrill's character, the show becomes like a bit of a soap opera, yet a well written one. This also has one of the funniest endings with Rose getting Dorothy and Blanche really good when she goes on a cruise with the unseen Arnie and returns looking down in the dumps. The fact that Dorothy and Blanche didn't see the irony and humor in Rose's claim doesn't make sense because they've pulled similar antics. Between Dorothy and her affair in the previous episode and Rose and her affair in this episode, this is by far the much better, and thanks to Morrill (aka Edie, Mrs. Lou Grant), one of my favorites.
